I want to capture more on both sides. Any apps or tips or settings I could change or something

Wait what crop?

I just meant Samsung chose to produce wide angle images from their camera sensors whereas Apple chose 3:4 images.

The only thing you can do is to either use the panorama mode or use an extra wide angle lens on top which won’t produce sharp image mostly.

So the Samsung selfies are wider, which is great, but the trade off is they’re narrower?

That’s NOT what I want. I would rather have the current ratio with iPhone.

Why would Samsung do that?

Like who wants a selfie with more on the sides but the pic cuts off at your neck.

It wouldn’t cut off at your neck because while taking pictures you’re going to frame the camera appropriately.

Either way, you can’t get 16:9 images on iPhone using the default camera but you can using other apps but that’s just a different crop of the image. That’s all.

So yeah, do you actually know what / why you want it?!

Because they can put it down as a bullet point against Apple. Nothing Samsung does is actually worthwhile as a wholesome feature, it's all gimmicks and half-assery all the way through. I could sit here and name examples all day - the "better" video capture crippled by their absolutely awful unnatural looking stabilization, their fake Face ID that can be fooled with a print out, "eye scrolling", etc.

If you want a wider selfie, hold the phone further away or get one of those Moment lens kits or one that specifically works on the front and back.
