the Martian who?

This watch. You know, the one that is an actual watch first. ;)

Apple is marketing this to the fashion crowd (aka 90% female crowd). All you have to do is look at how and where Apple has been advertising and you can see that they are catering to this specific demographic. (In fact, I don't think I have seen a single Apple advert with an Apple Watch on a guy?)

And the LG Urbane and Moto 360 are widely considered the best looking watches in the smartwatch market. The Apple Watch is completely polarized with people either calling it a toy looking, ugly watch or beautiful. Doesn't seem to be much in between.

Fashion trickles down from women to me. Without women, some of us would likely be wearing burlap sacks that sewn together with some shoestring.

If you think the LG Urbane or Moto 360 are widely considered the best looking smart watches on the market, you've been reading the opinions of too many tech people. The Apple Watch is the first smart watch that I've seen that's at least eliciting some interest from those interested in the high end watch world and the high end fashion world. I wear Rolex, Omega, etc., and I wouldn't touch one of those Android watches that look like they're from a mall kiosk watch dealer. Same with that Martian.

BTW, in a magazine last week:

I've never heard of it until now.

You'd be surprised how many people on this forum have Martians. http://www.martianwatches.com/products/

If you're someone who always has worn a watch and depends on it for time, the Martian series is one of the few good choices for use with a smartphone.

That's because the watch part has its own two-year battery. You will not be left without a watch just because the notification side ran out of juice ... which takes about five days, btw!

I recently upgraded from a Martian Notifier (the one in his pics above) to a Martian Victory (see pics below), which has its own speaker & microphone. This means I can be laying in bed when my phone rings a room over, see who's calling on the little OLED display, and press a button on the side to answer. I can also press the button to connect to Siri / Google on the remote device.

Guess watch just teamed up with Martian, and now sell a Guess version:

I really wouldn't call them smartwatches, because there's no OS or third party apps. It's just a nice solid notification device, surprisingly well received by reviewers.

I especially like that I get them off eBay for about half of what they usually sell for new, and it's easy to swap out their rubber bands for 22mm leather or steel ones of your choice. They've made great family presents.

I have an Omega Planet Ocean for my traditional watch but would prefer the real estate of the Apple watch for the "smart" part of the watch. That tiny strip of display on the Martian isn't my thing honestly.

Yeah, it's an interesting idea, but it's kind of like being into this:

but then transitioning to this:

At that point, I'd probably go ahead and just go with this:

Unless the fancy device only works for part of a day, but you need to be able to type whenever you feel like it.

Then suddenly the simpler devices start to look real good :)

I'm not sure what you mean? I charge my phone every night, and I even wind some of my mechanical watches in the mornings. Charging the Apple Watch every night is no big deal.

That's basically what a Rolex is. It's a little silly the so many, including myself, get so interested in them.

It's not really a great analogy because even if the watch ran out of juice (and with 18 hours of battery life, I think it will be fine for most use cases), you still have your phone which presumably has not run out of battery.

And the Martian Notifier is a nice compromise but IMO is ugly as a watch, with that big section at the bottom looking like it's been lopped off.
