The way the files constantly move around expanding and contracting when I'm doing drag and drop is annoying and makes my new max-ram macbook pro stutter and pause, esp when I drag large amounts of files at once. I want to turn it off.

Perhaps you're referring to spring-loaded folders in Finder. If so, see here:

Also google search terms: mac finder spring loaded folders

If you're not refeering to spring-loaded folders, then I don't know what expanding and contracting you mean.
No, I mean when you drag a bunch of files and they make a grid of icons at your cursor and they keep animating, contracting and expanding as you move your cursor to its destination.

Not on the list of stuff it does.
Maybe. But, there are several settings that allow you to turn off a variety of animations, and that may help you.
OnyX is another utility that can limit the animations that you see.
(hint: you may get the results that you want with OTHER mods to the system, such as window opening animations, etc.

You can also check out the "macOS hypertool": MacPilot - if that doesn't give you the mod that you want, it likely is not possible.

Select the files and then use the “copy” or “move” command. Then paste them in the directory you want them in. This completely eliminates any animations.
