iPod touch How do you use auto-correct feature?

WHen I type often the auto correct feature will suggest a word beneath the one I am typing, but I am unable to touch it to select it. How do I enable this?

I'm not sure I understand you... if you press the space bar, it should autocomplete or autocorrect the word you were typing into the one in the pop-up box. If you don't want the substitution word, you have to keep typing to disambiguate your response or else hit the X in the box.
