Though, in our IT department its most used by our so call "architects" , to be honest they just prounce around like show ponies with their ipads, real work gets done on the mac pros, imacs, Mbp and dells. Hate to say it but if you have one around here, your a douche, who says a lot and does nothing.

1. ui developer / novelist
2. Research / reference / testing / music
3. My IT background makes no difference. I use the iPad for its simplicity.

When at the office I use my iPad 1 primarily for Evernote (which I love). My essential tool for note-taking and offline references.

I also use the iPad for streaming music over 3G (sadly our work networks folks frown upon streaming music over their WIFI).

If I'm haunting a cafe writing I tend to use the iPad as my main research tool. I write on my MacBookPro in Scrivener full-screen (zero distractions), using the iPad for reference art, notes & google. Very handy having a small, mobile secondary screen.

2. I use it a lot when I'm away from my computer. My dual-Xeon, 16GB ram dell [ :( ] doesn't travel too easily, so when I'm in the field with customers, at a supplier or just around the office I use it sketch out ideas, take notes, and do quick torque/stress calculations on the Numbers sheet I have set up. Then I just go to iCloud and download everything back to my computer.
3. They know a ton of people have them, but have yet to make a public network (the main network is VPN for work-owned devices only). My manager signs off on my tethering expense report each month.

So yeah, not really used in any professional ways at the moment but I expect that to change to an extent. One of the directors is keen to get them in classrooms, personally I don't think they've thought what they want to use them for through, but once those directors get an idea that is cool or hip there is little deterring.

3) With knowledge, naturally.

1. IPTV/ISP
2. Note taking, remote access of my office computers, task management, light graphics work, writing documents and spreadsheets, web surfing, research, light flow charting, entertainment, social media access and participation.
3. With knowledge of the IT dept.

1. Graphic Design - Corporate
2. OmniFocus helps me keep track of all my projects, deadlines and organizing them with the subsidiaries they are for. Sketchbook Pro for quick ideas and comps. Penultimate for note taking. Games when I need to clear my head when I hit a creative block. Portfolio for displaying various works that I can refer back to in meetings when we need to update/rework.
3. I was given a profile to install on my iPad by a friend in IT, but I don't think they are given out to anyone and everyone.

Recently used Photoshop Touch for a new web graphic on our intranet and when I submitted the work on 03.07.12, I added a line at the end of the email,"In honor of today's forthcoming announcement, I created 100% of this graphic on my iPad."

Trying to replace my laptop

1. What field are you in?
Manufacturing/Operations
2. How do you use your iPad at work?
I use it to connect to our ERP(JDEdwards) and BI tool(Qlikview). This is done through an external web link. I give weekly presentations with keynote. I have been scanning all reports and using dropbox to have access to files where ever I go. For those who need extra security with dropbox, try secret tunnel. Its free and encrypts all files before going to dropbox.

My biggest issue is working with spreadsheets. I use numbers and it is missing some basic functionality, like hiding columns and rows. My 2012 wish is that Microsoft releases an Office app.

3. Is it with/without the knowledge of your IT department?
IT is slowly starting to support the Apple wave.

(The new iPad will be my first one so this is how I see myself using it)

1. Web Design for Radio Broadcasting
2. Checking mobile device compatibility, Note Taking, Web Browsing on the go, etc.
3. The Chief Engineer and I are the IT department... so yes :D

law.

e-mail, legal research, reading pdfs (best function -- never need to carry tons of binders again), entering through the company system.

fully supported.

I am a Civil Tech for local munincipality.

Use "PDF Expert" on my iPad for storing and reviewing Plan Sets, Proposals, Standard Plans, Spec Book, a few Manuals. I can also down load important documents and forms from the D.O.T. website and completely fill them out as needed on my iPad.

I use "Logmein Ignition" to do daily reports, post payments, and contract modifications from the field instead of hauling my laptop out of the office every day.

I have much more room in my work truck now that I can leave my laptop, blue prints, various manuals and forms around with me - iPad holds it all now.

I can keep up with my work email, watch movies, read books, pay my own bills, play a few games, and surf the web from my iPad when I am stuck out on a road project with a little free time.

My bosses have no problem with my use of the iPad at work, no one else in my engineering department has a iPad but they are beginning to look into getting all the techs one.

1. Construction.
2. I use Pages during site meetings to record minutes. I use Adobe Ideas to view and markup architectural drawings during site walkthroughs, using different colours for different trades and then email the drawing straight to the tradesmen. This one is simple, but iBooks for viewing 300 page architect specifications, which is much better than paper because you can search for what you want. Also can sketch layouts using a Pogo Sketch stylus.
3. I am the IT department as well as many other departments

I manage a store. I use the iPad to do back office paperwork thru log me in well upfront. Let's me do 2 jobs at once.

1. Translator for small legal firm

2. Pages for on-th-go editing of documents, Dropbox for transfering files, Contacts app for keeping client info, other productivity apps for tracking tasks and schedules, iMessage and AIM for keeping in touch with co-workers and clients.

3. I and our Office Manager are the IT department. We are also the only ones in our firm who have iPads. We purchased and installed a wifi router when the first iPad came out, so we could hook up our iPads to the office network. In other words, we pretty much do what we want as far as IT goes. :p

1. IT
2. Presentations, Server Updates (one button click, nothing extreme), Assisting clients with their access, reporting and benchmarking.
3. Owner in the company

For those that do Web Design, Development and coding what apps are you using?

Countless Ways.

I'm in IT, having it with me lessens the need on having to carry my laptop around the office.

2. TrialPad allows me to take digital copies of files to court with me. iCal allows me to track and add to to my court appearances and office intakes. iMessage, TextFree, and Mail allow me to contact clients and keep in communication with my office while sitting in the courtroom waiting (formerly semi-wasted time). MileBug allows me to keep track of my mileage. iBooks allows me to take important texts and manuals in PDF form with me at all times.

I'm looking at picking up trialpad eventually but $90 for an app is painful.

Anyways,

1. Legal

2. Not sure how I'm going to actually use the iPad yet (my first tablet) however I'm hoping for a "laptop lite." What I mean by that is I need something that I can use when away from my office that will stand in and do some laptop like functions for me. Mostly I need note taking, a way to carry around digital copies of case files, and a method of having all my code books for quick reference when in court.

3. I'm running my own practice, I am the IT department hence I approve of my using the iPad.

I am an eye doctor. I use it for videos to explain eye disease, teach patients how to properly care for contacts. I am trying to find an app or website to take a picture of the patient and show different glasses on the patient.

Lighting Design Engineer.

Mostly AutoCAD documents for ease, take pictures of site surveys so I can edit them and draw on them.

1. IT
2. Take notes and surf web during meetings. Also for Lync.
3. I guess you could say so

Painting contractor

Own my own business. Use in the field for bids and images. Also can access all of our bid via DropBox.

The iPad 3 will produce better images so I do not need my iPhone for images. All my cutomers use email
