I'm looking for ways to make the best use out of my iMac's 27 inches and arrange certain apps in certain virtual desktops. I'm seeking inspiration by asking how you arrange the multiple apps you use on a regular basis.

    So far I just have:

    Things and Calendar side-by-side
Safari as full screen, or when I'm working, Safari and Word side-by-side
    iTunes as its own full-screen

In older versions of OS X, I used to run 3x3 virtual desktops arranged by workflow. Today I usually run two virtual desktops, one on each side of my RoyalTS remote desktop/ssh client (which goes in fullscreen mode), and then I fullscreen whatever other productivity software I happen to need to focus on for the time being.
I do lots of four-finger swiping on my trackpad.
