When using Apple watch at a gym for workout tracking do you have to select individual workouts everytime on the workout app?

So if so an indoor run chose that, starting and stopping manually. Then go on to rowing machine so the same etc etc?

Is there nothing auto does this or a newer app that syncs with the watch data etc?

Thanks

for cardio I choose the indoor, outdoor run/walk, elliptical etc but for weight training I just do open workout

But after every individual workout, you have to select, start, stop, change to next and repeat? Or do you just leave it on for the whole time when doing similar stuff?

Thanks

correct, ie. 20 min indoor run, 20 min row, 20 min elliptical on my cardio days, start, stop, and start the next one. I mean I still have to switch machines, so I switch the "app" but for weight training, I just let it run for the duration of my training time

If you use the built-in workouts app & want to switch exercise types, you can pause the workout, then swipe right, and pick the next exercise, so you don't actually have to start, stop, start, stop all the time (this is as of watch os version 4).

This ^^^^

Press the "+" button and you can add the next workout type to your session.

Also, if you choose "Other" for any workout segment, when you're done, you can rename it from the Summary screen on the Watch. Say you start with Elliptical and then want to go lift weights; you'd then choose Other, go pick things up and put them down for a while, then hit End when you're done. It'll show you the summary for each segment, in this example titled Elliptical and Other. Tap "Other", and you can change it to "Weight Training".

I swipe right but just comes up with music app? This is a series one all updated.

When you say you should pause then swipe right though wouldn't this not close the last workout? Or do you mean if you were going to come back to that activity?

Sorry new to this but want to use the workout app to track.

Thanks

Swipe starting on the left of your screen and move your finger to the right, that will bring my up a screen with options including the + sign, which allows
You to select a new workout segment to add.

What you are currently doing is starting with your finger on the right side of the screen and moving your finger left, that brings up the audio controls.

I don’t bother two switch. I’m mostly a runner first and foremost so I’m only in the gym if it’s an extremely cold or windy day but...if I’m doing several different activities (usually a combination of elliptical, bike, and weights) I just put it on cross training and let it run the whole time without stopping when I change activities. My main concern is getting the Exercise and Move credit, lol.

Ok so used it a few times at gym now. Its a bit of a faff on, to start and stop after a indoor run, a row, a cross trainer etc. What are the actual differences in those workouts? Can you not just start and pause/stop the "other" workout and be done?

sorry new to all this using this thats all, be interested on what others use, no way GymKit will come soon either, the machines have old 30pin connections on anyway!

thanks

Sure. Just using other will work fine. I think that many of the exercises are labeled for people who want to keep accurate or rack of what they did when. If you’re just looking to record your overall activity level, just set it to other and be done with it.

Can’t the apple watch auto detect what exercise your doing? I know my fitbit auto detect what im doing... Ex Running, elliptical, walking, etc...

Saw this thread looking for new tricks. When I do the above the + is greyed out when I swipe right. Swiping left correctly brings up music.
WTF?

OK....did a bunch of searching and have it figured out.
1st....the + will stay greyed out until a workout exceeds 1 minute. Then you get the opportunity to add another workout type and continue by tapping +.

If you use “other” mode and the workout runs long enough you get a summary after swiping right and tapping ‘end’. Scrolling with the crown lets you select what type of activity you want to call this ‘other’ workout from a list.

What was beating me was I couldn’t get a summary or get the + ungreyed because I wasn’t waiting long enough for the workout duration to satisfy this minimum workout period.

Wow this is great , I had no Indra this can be done. So will the activities be separated in the activities app ? Example if I weight train and than do this + trick for a run it will be a continuous workout and broken down by activities in the app ?
[doublepost=1544299488][/doublepost]Btw does anyone use other types of workout apps besides the built in one ? I’ve tried so many but it seems the built in one is best.
