my mac plays games great. UT2003 runs smooth, and so does Retrun to Castle wolfenstien.

Agreed, but most PC gamer contemplating/criticizing Macs have problems with the availability of game titles.

srobert: nice pic:)

eclipse525: Thnx for the link

oh great, another rumor that is going to make me check macr 10 times a day.

1.74 posts a day and climbing:)

I was hovering around the computer department at John Lewis. They have rows of PC laptops and so on, and although there were plenty of customers, they were just going through the motions and it all seemed very dull. People were walking over to the Apple stand and like grinning at the G5 and literally going wow. Shame the dual processor wasnt set up because there was only a 1.6 Ghz G5 and a couple of cinema dispalys to blow people away with. That was a fast little beasty though, and it was quite a reasonable price too. So price and performance seem to be levelling out which should count for something when talking to PC speed heads looking to knock Macs. Problem is though, you just cant get any software for a Mac - can you!!!!

It is denial. How many games can you possibly play or rather want. The reality is that most of the games in the PC world are CRAP. Only a handful are quality games and a good portion of the quality ones are on OSX. Besides, isn't that were a PS2 or XBox come into play. To satisfy the hard core gamer.

so true

but having a pc, and almost any pc, and then walking into a office depot, electronic boutique, or whatever is so fun...all those games to choose from...but i don't really use my pc for games, i just love spending a lot of time looking at all the cool games...he he

gamers tell me it's better to get a playstation or x-box since heavy gaming gums up windows and files

i acutally use my ibook most of the time and i love to come here and post

That would seem to go beyond games on x86 machines.

Probably, the people complaining about the lack of games pay for very few of the games they have anyway, so we certainly don't want them over here.

Between the PowerBook pulling in Linux/FreeBSD/UNIX people and the G5 pulling in the scientific community, I'd say that the x86 people's jibes are getting a bit thin.

- and starting to acquire a note of despiration as they lash out in an attempt to convince themselves that they made a good purchase of their own.

apple lies!!

ok i am pretty sure the majority of you are mac users, but first off mac lies. On their site they say "how fast" well the speeds that they have are on optimized macs and even then the cpu 2000 results are equal to that of the intel pentium 4 2.4 ghz 800 mhz fsb 875 pbz mb. If you do not believe me go to www.spec.org. This is the OFFICIAL cpu 2000 website. Mac doesn't post, because they are out gunned, but they are a member. Second if you still do not believe me then go to this article, it states that mac was lying on their stats, and they were on specifically optimized computers. http://www.winnetmag.com/Article/ArticleID/39381/39381.html
This should clarify things.

Not at all. A Honda S2000 redlines at 8,000 rpm but that doesn't mean it's faster than a Ferrari. There's far more to it that just spec scores.

Also, Mac doesn't lie, it's Apple, and they are guilty of marketing, not lying. Lying is a criminal and civil offense (misrepresentation) and it is highly prosecutable by law.

The whole argument, in a nutshell is that the G5 is right there among the pack. This is why it's so argued.

We'll see what happens when the next set of G5's hit. I think then arguing will be pointless. Remember the P4 is at the end of it's design lifetime. The G5 is right at the start, and this even precludes the G6 (PPC980) due.

I think any Apple consumer will agree that they do miss boats, but when the wake up to it, they come roaring back.

The G5, would start to ping on my radar of possible computers to by if,
a) it had at least a second optical bay and 1 3&1/4" external bay.
b) it could play games better than my Sub $1000AUD PC
c) The price dropped to a more reasonable amount.
d) I could only buy the 2 processors and 1 motherboard, from IBM, and whoever produces the PCB's.

Save that my next purchace will either be and Athlon 64 or AthlonXP 2500+(stop gap) bassed system using an Ati graphics card.

However no purcases will be made until at least April when BTX motherboards are due to be released with the new PCI Express graphics standard.

"It's too expensive!! It's too expensive!!" is all I hear from my pc friends. (Actually, I use the term 'friends' loosely now because I only seem to have contact with them when they want me to fix something for them.) I personally haven't used the G5 enough to have an opinion (except that it's HUGE.) I also just bought a G4 tower a few months ago, so buying a G5 is not in the plan right now :(

One person I know in particular has a great time complaining about Macs, yet never hesitates to call me up the minute his xp box goes south.

Several of my UNIX/ sys admin/ Java programmer/ Linux type friends, who mostly used Windows boxes as their private machines before, have gotten interested in the Mac not just when the G5 came out, but actually as soon as OS X got popular and usable (around 10.1). Several of them have already bought Macs, and they're extremely happy with them.

One Java programmer friend who's a UNIX/Linux guy and tired of his home Windows machine, is about to buy his first Mac - a 15" 1.25 Ghz Powerbook, since he's in the market for a portable and can't wait for the PB G5 this summer. And while generally computers are commodities for him, he's actually excited about this one! AND whereas in previous years, he always looked down at me for being a Mac person - practically equating Mac with computer-illiterate ("if you knew how to use a computer, you wouldn't need one of those Macs") - he now actually came to me to ask for advice about which Powerbook to buy, what accessories, whether to go with the APP, when to buy, etc. So I think OS X has really changed the image of "Mac" in the eyes of at least some folks.

Most of my conversations kind of go like this:

Me: Hey, I just got me eMac the other day, it's pretty cool.

Moron: Dude, you got a Mac? Macs suck.

Me: Okay, when's the last time you actually USED a Mac?

Moron: I've never used one.

HOW THE HELL CAN SOMEONE DISS SOMETHING THEY'VE NEVER USED!? JUST GIVE THE FREAKING THING A CHANCE!....

I then proceed to bash the moron's head in with my 50 pounds of eMac. :)

I also can't tell you how many times my friends have asked me: "What color did you get?" As if they still sold the colors of iMacs or something.
