Looking to get the CS3 upgrade and also an Intel Mac soon. I have CS2 as a download rather than an actual dvd/cd. They are compressed. So my question is this.

When I buy the CS3 upgrade what does Adobe typically ask for when doing the upgrade? Do I have to have the previous version installed on that machine? I don't want to install CS2 on my new machine as I want to have a fresh install. Will a previous serial # work? Or will I have to unstuff the CS2 onto the new mac (without installing) and have the disc images on that machine?

Your Questions Are Excellent But . . .

What CS3? There are about 25 different permutations. Why not phone Adobe sales and ask them. It's toll free. 800.833.6687 6AM to 8PM Pacific

Have you studied the Adobe Creative Suite 3 (CS3) Pricing and Upgrades thread yet?

What kind of upgrade? Academic or Commercial?
From what CS2 to what CS3?
Some upgrades cost more than buying straight out.
I'm buying the Academic (yes I qualify) CS3 Master Collection for $999 instead of a commercial upgrade for $1399
