How does Apple Mail & Gmail IMAP cope with very large databases?

I'd like to hear from users of Apple Mail 3.0 (Leopard) who are using it with Gmail IMAP with very large email storage. Anyone pushing Gmail's limit of around 7GB? How does Gmail IMAP and Apple Mail work at those levels? Still running smoothly, or does it tend to slow down as the email storage increases?

I'm up to about 5 GB with mail going back to June 04, so far I am having no problems with Mail 3.0.
