The genius award actually goes to the WISPs that charge you for text messaging.
Text messages are sent via your data plan. It's just that your service provider is able to count the outgoing and incoming texts and in turn charge you for them. Same goes for voice. Those "minutes" you're using on 4G LTE is data being sent VoIP. The phone tracks your 'call time' and in turn bills you for it.
Gotta love companies dipping their hands into your pocket$ as many times as they can get away with it..
As someone who switches sim between my Lumia 900 and iPhone. I am pullin my hair out with iMessages.
If sim is in Nokia Lumia 900 and I send phone to an iPhone user. Message gets sent as SMS to iPhone 4s user.
But I never get a response back. Because messages replied back go back to my iPad or iPhone (no sim).
So apple hasn't figured out how to handle iMessage for sim switches like me who rotate smartphones all the time.
Even if I turn off iMessage this still happens.
Apple iMessage is not as good as people claim especially for those who like to use different phones.
My wife is wondering why I don't respond back to her text that she sent from her iPhone 4s to my Nokia Lumia 900. It's because the message isn't sent as SMS but to my iMessage via my iPad/iPhone (no sim).
So apple has a huge problem tying iMessage with my phone number when I am sim switching.
