how does the continuing removal of buttons and ports from Apple products improve the user experience?

I took my phone in last weekend to replace a broken charging port (not filled with lint, it literally broke) and while I was at it, I had him fix the mute switch that's been broken for the past two years (coming from a 6 Plus).

So that's one way the removal of buttons and ports can help. Less things to break from constant usage and physical wear.

There are probably still all kinds of people even today who would benefit from something like that.

These are not people that need to be lining up for a phone like this is my opinion. new tech requires new ways of doing things. Either be part of it, or not. People can simply keep their old phones if they do not like new technology. No one forces them to upgrade

Glancing at the lockscreen and expanding because it knows it is you. I prefer Android's notification system since the beginning but this Face ID security with lockscreen on iOS seems amazing.

I want the camera from the 7/8 plus series in a physically smaller phone. Having a son in sports, the zoom is nice, I would like it in a more manageable/pocket-able sized phone. That's the attraction for me. The added screen real estate is a nice bonus too.

IMO it doesn't. IMO Touch ID was the last real improvement to the user experience. But I'm keeping an open mind since it isn't in the hands of users yet.

Yes and no. In the Apple ecosystem once Apple drops operating system support for a device in effect that device quickly becomes unusable. The original Mac Pro is a prime example. Thankfully Apple does a good job supporting older devices with newer operating system releases. The four year old iPhone 5s is still supported with iOS 11.1.

Multitasking is way, way, way, wayyyyyyyyy faster on the X thanks to the lack of the home button. This is honestly what I'm most excited about.

Honestly they could've added the same multitasking gestures to every single supported iphone and I wish they did.

Swipe up to multitask instead of double tap.
