Good morning.

How does location based DND actually work ?

If I force touch DND in CC I have the options. I have until I leave home. I also have “ Whilst daughter picks up exam results 10:00 - 12:00 “ option this morning.

Now I have the above in my calendar , so is this why it provides this DND option ?

Why do I always get “ Until I leave this location (Home) “ in the options ? To my knowledge I don’t have anything location based to my home switched on.

I’ve read that when someone walked into their local cinema it automatically switched on & then switched off again when they left. Now that’s cool but how on earth did it do that. Does all this depend what you have in your calendar or does it match certain words ?

Sorry for all the questions but this is cool & I want to make full use of it , however at this time I’m unsure as to how it exactly works & what I’m doing right & wrong.

Cheers

Why do I always get “ Until I leave this location (Home) “ in the options ? To my knowledge I don’t have anything location based to my home switched on. If you are home (and you have identified this location as your home to Apple), it's because you are there

I’ve read that when someone walked into their local cinema it automatically switched on & then switched off again when they left. Now that’s cool but how on earth did it do that. Does all this depend what you have in your calendar or does it match certain words ? I don't think it automatically switches on. However, if you bought theater tickets via an app such as Fandango, Siri might surface this as a suggestion. It may also just have determined the user's location at a cinema and assumed (probably correctly!) that the user was there for a movie. A great feature, by the way.

Sorry for all the questions but this is cool & I want to make full use of it , however at this time I’m unsure as to how it exactly works & what I’m doing right & wrong.

Ok guys , so I'm aware of geofencing however that doesn't fully answer my question.

Why does it always say switch on DND until I leave home, & why when I went to the cinema last week & the week before that my phone did not automatically go into DND mode. I know it didn't because I was on my phone until the last advert had finished & the film about to start.

So my original question is put again. Do I have to switch something on, have in my calendar that I am going to the cinema between certain times or is this feature still hit & miss ?

Cheers

They already answered by saying it doesn’t automatically switch on. You may get it as a Siri suggestion or in the DND CC menu.

IMO Apple missed a trick here by not allowing an option in Calendar events to automatically turn on DND :(
