I currently have a Macbook Pro Retina 13" which I use as both a laptop and a desktop (with external displays).

I'm considering buying a Mac Pro to use as a desktop instead.

If I install OS X server on the Mac Pro, will it allow me to use both computers as one?

I'm not going to use both at the same time, but want to be able to logout of one computer, login to the other, and for it be identical to the other in every way (files, programs etc).

Is this what OS X server allows me to do?

Will I always need an internet connection to login when working away from home on the Macbook?

Yes, if setup that way...to do this you will need to put the User Folder on a shared drive, bind your MBP to the server and then setup -- in Profile Manager 00 the syncing of files between the two devices.

This is a lot of work to do for little gin versus what you are now doing unless you need the added power of a MP.
