How does Sonos know I've plugged-in a Mac?

Plugging a minijack cable from my Air to my Sonos Play 5 (which I've named Living Room) makes the Sonos app display a 'Line in' option.

But how does it know the analogue line-in is coming from a "Mac Computer"?
