I've been using 15" MBP's since the unibody in 2008, and am currently on a Mid 2015 15" MBP with a 512GB SSD and 16GB ram, and I've LOVED it. I mainly do front end web development, Photoshop, and use it as an all purpose work / media machine. I enjoy the screen real estate, but it's performance has been slipping a bit and the fans LOVE to ramp up for minimal tasks. I even have a new battery (Apple Genuine) and it STILL depletes quickly!

The new MBP's are enticing, but I ask myself "do I REALLY need the big model anymore?" I'd really like a 1TB SSD and perhaps 32GB of ram to have this thing for 5 years or more.... but dang those prices. The 14.2" makes it more palatable and am interested to know if it's very close to the 15" I currently use in visual user experience / real estate, etc.

Has anyone compared the 15" head to head with the 14.2"? Is it worth the screen shrink?

I have a 14" M1 Max with 32 gig ram and 1T upgrade, en route with a Nov 4th date currently showing as my delivery.
But i'm with you on overspending a touch to future proof the device.

I am currently on a mid 2010 15" MBP unibody that I've managed to eeeeek some extra years out of with an SSD upgrade back in 2015 or so.

I will post some nice photos comparing these two models.

But I'm with you on debating whether I really needing these "Pro" devices anymore. Actually there's no debate, I don't lol. The M1 MBA, with it's awesome battery life, M1 speed, small form factor, and price, is all I would really need for my hobby photo work.

But I've waited too long to not treat myself. Especially when such a leap forward of a device like this comes out.
