How does the Back To School promo work?

If I buy in-store with cash, what happens? If I buy with credit card I know they charge up front and then credit the card.

This year's BTS promo is different. With qualifying purchase, you get a $100 gift card for the Appstore. Therefore, your card will not be charged for it nor will they ask you for cash, since it's plain and simple FREE GIFT CARD.

just bought a bto mac and it looks as though the gift card has shipped already and my credit card charged $100. I assume this will be credited back at some point or the price of the mac will be reduced by $100 when it is shipped and charged to my cc. Can anyone confirm this?
