    I'm talking about

    http://appshopper.com/music/groove

I'm not entirely sure how are they able to stay in the background entirely....
I mean I know the ipod app stays in the background but this app is able to keep entire playlist, mixes, group of songs running in the background even if you exit the app....

I'm just surprised......if anybody has any clue let me know

Just tried it. It seems to just trigger the regular iPod app and acts as a front end for it. A thoughtful approach to the appearance of backgrounding.

Because Apple's API allows for this type of application.

It's called a "collection" that is handed to the iPod app. The 'Groove' app isn't running in the background.
