Just wondering how the Photos App handle duplicate photos?

I have been using iCloud to backup photos for the last year, but have backed up photos to dropbox for allot longer.

Rather than trying to sort what photos are in iCloud and what photos are not I was going to drag all the photos from dropbox into the Photos App. Will this create duplicates or will it give me the option to ignore photos already in iCloud so they won't copy over from Dropbox?

Any advice on this before causing a possible massive headache are welcome :D

I would not drag and drop.

I've used the "File -> Import" before and it showed me items that were already in my library so I did not have to import them again.

Perfect thanks! Will give it a go later, need to pay for some more storage too as I have nearly 20gb of photos I think.

Although I haven't used it, there is a highly rated app in the App Store called PhotoSweeper that purports to find duplicates. $10.

Well currently getting the following error.

These photos were taken on my iPhone so not sure whats going on.

Any ideas?

Right, well fixed the import problem by importing in groups of 1000 which worked fine.

Next problem.....

Even though I was only selecting "Import New" I still seem to be left with duplicates of each photo. I purchased PhotoSweeper from the Mac App Store but that only shows one of each file.

Why is the photos app showing duplicates of each?

How can this be fixed?
