I don't get his point ;-). ...

BJ's trolling the forum intentionally starting arguments and making hyperbolic statements to rile people up.

Sorry for the assumption. ...

Reading BJ's posts in other places on these forums, it seems as if they are always ready to defend Apple, especially in a marketing-machine kind of way.

I don't get his point ;-). Apple reduced the price of the ATV (which had been $99 since the ATV2 release) to better compete with market conditions (e.g. Roku, FireTV, etc.). And it's not representative of how Apple typically deals with its computer lineup.

There are 2 Air's in my family. I have no agenda to besmirch the product. It is common sense that the Air will be discontinued or become the iPhone 5C of the Macbook family.

Thanks for all the input. I'm sure that a rMB would be a huge step up from what I'm used to especially in SSD speeds.i suppose I'm just suffering from a paralysis of choice as any of the new macs would. i think its a confusing time in MacBook land. The Air seems to be on its way out. The rMB is interesting but still Gen1 product so there's mystery there, and the MBP seems hobbled by the lack of Intel upgrades. So hard to know what to do for the best. At least what ever I chose will be a huge step up

As a general rule of thumb, run away as fast as you can from the MacBook Air. It's basically a dead product.

Let us know what you decide to get.

I'm still on my soon-to-be 5 year old MBP w/ SSD. These are my pain points:
- Fan gets noisy when loading pages with lots of flash ads, esp on Chrome (but I depend on Chrome to sync bookmarks across Win & Mac) and when watching videos, and despite that the machine gets hot (thermal paste is old?)
- Slow performance when loading graphics heavy pages.
- Weight (it now just feels too heavy!)
- Battery life (even when new battery life is about 6 hours, but now I'm down to around 4)
- 128 GB SSD filling up (that's an easy fix)
