On the recommendation of a friend, I bought a (black) Hammerhead case, which has turned out to be solid, light in weight, not expensive, and so far very durable.

Blue poly cover in use for five months now. Still excellent condition, no wear points or tears. When it gets dirty I just wile it with a damp microfiber cloth.

I have a green poly. I have had it since July. The only problem it has is that the metal hinge has get a bit discoloured and leaves a black spot in the microfiber face when the Smart Cover is folded. The screen doesn't get affected by this.

I usually put and get off the Smart Cover when I want, no problems.

Grey poly one on mine. Magnets still as new and the felt is not coming away at all after 3 months of daily use. In fact the only sign of use are the marks on the outside where the ink on my newspaper has rubbed off on it.

Seems to me a lot of ppl like the Black leather... I just ordered the navy one (its quite nice). I had the grey one but had tearing problems. Have had a tan leather one since iPad 2 release day and not a single problem. I think the leather is just longer lasting. FYI, the smart covers are cheaper on Amazon (sold by 3rd party but still the original). Got the navy leather one for $51 :)

Gray poly for me. My iPad goes absolutely everywhere with me but I got really sick of the bulky case I had it in, so I got a thin plastic back cover that is smart cover compatible. I also put a strip of tape where the hinges connect so it doesn't scratch up my iPad.

The whole shebang gets carried around in my backpack all day--my smart cover has shown no signs of dirt or wear yet and it gets used on the train, at work, and all over the house. My kids also use it (under my close supervision) and haven't managed to damage it yet.

I've had my orange smart cover since april on my ipad, its had stuff spilled on it, dropped, scratched, everything, and the iPad itself if perfectly fine :D ..... however the back of my iPad thats a completely different story :(

Let's be honest

I only have the smart cover, leather version, bc it was a gift. I'm guessing that the 2012 iPad 3 will have a different and better smart cover. Another $70 next year.

Let's be honest here, the actual production cost of the leather smart cover is $2 or less, more than the other cover. I've got a client in the leather business for more than 90 years. On their scale with Apple, it would be less than $2 difference. That's with US production costs which is much more than China.

Black leather here, the only issue I have it's that it leaves dust spot lines in the screen every time it covers it ::confused:
Anybody else has this issue?

Yes.

At ~60 days now and still in great condition.

Got ZAGG LeatherSkin in today, affixed it, ***** sweet!

Black leather...2 months old.
Leather is holding up fine, but the "hinge" squeaks. Also the hinge area leaves some black marks on the ipad, and also the magnet/hinge area has some wear marks from moving back and forth so much.

Plus don't know if it is normal, but the magnets feel sort of weak. The cover is easily lifted off the screen, and if I fold it all the way back it doesn't stick to the back (not sure if it is even supposed to do this though)

Overall not too impressed with it.
