Check the home page at CultOfMac. Looks like Apple will be starting some sort of "personal walkin" at locl stores thing tonight at 10, presumably west coast time. You order via app, then walk in tomorrow and pick up. But read carefully.. I was rushed.

Went to my local Apple Store shortly after opening to pick up 3 pre-orders (lightning cables and 2 6th gen iPod Nano) and they told me that they got slammed that morning with iPhone purchases. A guy came up to my salesperson and asked about a Verizon 16GB. All Verizons were out except for possibly a 64GB Black. Demand still seems to be really high.
5th Ave Apple store in NYC is all sold out, I asked around 8:40 this morning. They told me to come check tomorrow or Wednesday at 8:00.
basically unless you are in a major city like New York, you can probably walk in and pick one up no problem.
No luck in Tampa, FL! Apple store has no att phones left, all att stores that I called within a 20 mile radius are all sold out, including radio shack and best buy....If any one in Tampa know of a place that has them in stock please let me know!!!!! Thank you 
Check out the store in Grand Central. I know someone who was on line there for all of 20 minutes and got the phone he wanted, on 9/14. He goes through GC every day and there evidently hasn't been huge crowds there, not like at the store over on 5th. That one's been crazy.

Was in the Best Buy in Danbury CT yesterday. They said they were totally sold out, and wouldn't see any more phones for another couple of weeks.

NO luck in Silicon Valley. I went to or called to both Apple Stores in San Jose, Los Gatos and even Palo Alto. I've had no luck all week. And for online reservations, all of our stores are unavailable for pickup. You'd expect more iPhone 5s in stock here considering Apple HQ is down the street.

I tried today and no luck...both Apple stores and Verizon stores were out of stock. Verizon said I could order and it would ship on the 19th and a couple of Apple stores mentioned the 10p-4am ordering for store pick up. #losangeles
No luck in the Cincinnati/Dayton, OH area. I haven't tried the Apple store yet, but a bunch of AT&T stores and Sams Club have been all out every time I've gone.
Bummer, I'm not getting mine for a few weeks so it should be better by then.
