Im thinking of making the switch to t-mobile. mainly for ease of using my phone overseas. I see that if you add the extra package of 10 dollars a month you get 2X data speed over seas.

Anyone use it overseas and know how it actually works?

This is a pretty broad topic. What countries are you thinking of visiting? I can’t personally speak for t-mo but I’m a proponent of getting a SIM card when I travel abroad rather than paying extra for international service.

Unless I’m visiting Canada.

All depends where you go.

If you have an LTE signal, there’s a good change you’ll get posted 256k speed. Sure it’s not fast, but you can navigate, text, send emails, light web browsing.

Used it in China, Japan, UK, South Africa this year. S Africa was crappy, but mostly due to 3G carriers. China is tough because their internet laws are tough. No Google services works there.

Ran some speed tests while in Japan & UK got 256k and was able to tether to other devices.

It got me by and price was right.

Portugal usually and this year going to Dublin.

You can get a data sim for both. You have options of using FaceTime (Face Time Audio) Skype, Hangouts or some other VoIP Solution. I have spent upwards of a month in Japan with data only. I could still access my meetings on slack and take to family with FaceTime.

And probably a lot cheaper then any international plan you could get from your provider..

What is overseas for you? Russia? Kongo? France?

yes I have done that in the past. But would be nice to just use my phone there. I just wanted to hear about experi nice overseas. Especially Portugal and Ireland.
