Yep, I went through all of those things and did a reset too. By the end of the day yesterday, it wasn't too bad and so far today it's doing okay.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. I just went and did everything on their list other then turning on the App background Refresh.

For that, I'm ok if it eats into my battery life. iOS is finally getting one of the best features of webOS. (if only we could access the app switcher without hitting a physical button! Which admittedly is a very minor request)

How bad are the issues?

(I've installed iOS 7, but haven't spent a ton of time. I definitely see areas where my iPhone 5 beats it, specifically pressing "Go" on the keyboard in Safari tends to take a bit longer then I'd expect)

Also it's worth nothing, I have yet to turn anything from that lifehacker article off yet.

The issues are not bad...but those issues are not present in iOS 6. I was able to downgrade, so I did. If the downgrade was not available I could have lived with 7.

Forced a reboot of my ipad 3 initially, but everything seems to be working okay after that.

First impressions - full-screen notifications and reader mode in landscape mode is neat!

Just to be clear, the battery life is still worse than the other day on iOS 6.

If you feel your iPad 3 become laggy after installing iOS7, don't worry, this is called "Planned obsolesce", few months later many will be buying the new iPad...

for those want to hang on little longer will get the short end of the stick.

^no lag... not even when trying to get a new wallpaper? I heard a lot of people complaining about that. Pretty annoying.

I noticed this too. I couldn't resize at all.

I was also locked out of my iPad after the upgrade (rejected the passcode). Not sure how that happened, but it required Recovery Mode to correct. Otherwise all is well.

While I'm at it: a pet peeve is people talking about a "clean install" of iOS. This is not one of your options if you have a problem. Your options are Restore and Recovery.

I was planning on getting the new iPad but not because I needed to upgrade. I just wanted to give the old one to my sister... Now I feel like I need to get the new iPad because my 1 year-old iPad 3 is slow even with just a few apps on it.

It's bad enough that the new iOS7 interface must have hit every branch of the ugly tree on it's way down, but I also experience frequent freezes on my iPad 3 64GB Cellular when using Safari.

Only by clearing the system will Safari work once again.

I may be in a minority here, but I really feel like Apple has made a very backwards decision in the poor design of the iOS7 interface. I expected better of fellow brit, Jony Ive.

I intend to revert to iOS6 over the weekend as I just cannot live with iOS7.

All of the iPhones in this household are remaining on iOS6 too.

Battery life awful with iOS 7 on iPad 3

My experience--

I Left the house yesterday morning at 7am--- iPad was charged to 98% after checking mail... used it on my commute into work--train, not driving--

Worked all day, never touched my iPad... that night on the train--at about 8:30p It was at 3%... yes 3%...

Today was the same drill-- only I check it at 4pm and was down to 32% !!!
I've used it for less than 20 minutes all day !!!

I think we need an iOS 7.0.2 ASAP

Actually, it seems like the consensus is that it's fine except the wallpaper lag but most people without problems did a complete wipe and install.

I didn't do a complete wipe and install and my iPad 3 runs just fine!
I seriously don't know what the beef is all about!

I have the iPad 3 and it runs great with iOS7. Yes, the wallpaper took a bit to update, but how often do you change the wallpaper. Everything else i've used runs great, even faster in alot of ways.

So you think Apple mucked up the code just to make us all upgrade? That sounds plausible.

I'm not seeing ANY lag. None. Not even during wallpaper refresh...it's instant. I wonder if there's a reason behind the lag/no-lag scenarios?

As has been posted and suggested in several other threads like this.... it's best to do a Reset/Reboot and see if the lag is still there. I'm not talking about the full data wipe (which may be overkill). See below (for those that are not clear):

True enough. But likely they are simply using legacy geekster vernacular from the Mac/PC era. I don't blame them. :D

Mine is a fresh restore as a new iPad (hence the wallpaper change). Changing the wallpaper takes several seconds.

Not only does the wallpaper take forever to change, there is absolutely NO feedback. There is NO response to any of the button pushes. (To save for home screen, lock screen, or both.)

Not sure if intentional or not, but there seems to be a disturbing trends toward NO feedback for buttons presses, relying, instead, on the action that has been requested to be performed.

So, you press a button to save wallpaper, the "feedback" is that the wallpaper has changed. But you don't see anything change. (Maybe on some unreleased iPad…) You just have to "cancel", and then sometimes the wallpaper has changed, and sometimes it is not.

All the wallpaper hurts my eyes, anyway.

I am very disappointed by the design. It is NOT pretty. It is NOT well-designed. It is NOT harmonious. It is ugly as sin. The thin fonts are hard to read. It seems change for change-sake, and, really, just new skewmorphisms. My screen is not 3D. It's a flat damn screen. Draw some flat damn images, not fake 3D backgrounds that eat CPU!

Man, are the group icons ugly, but I read that has something to do with transparency support, and won't be as ugly on iPhone 5.

Overall, seems sluggish especially with respect to touch input - poor feedback. And the effects are mind-bogglingly meaningless. It is just gratuitous flash. Why do icons have to fly from all over the place? Why do page changes (may just be specific apps, though, such as Zite) have to be so bizarre? Why wrap things into weird shapes when you scroll? Is there some purpose to any of this?

I actually wound-up doing a full reboot (power and home) several times, because it was just completely unresponsive. Once locked, the unlock slider didn't work at all.

What I'd like to see from "flat" design: well, flat design. Actually, I'd like a bit of natural shading to make buttons or, OK, let's not call them buttons, since that's skewmorphism…. "things I can touch" should have a bit of shading to make them pop off the page. And that's it. Not strange blobs showing through everything and odd color washes.

So, we have all this silliness instead, and still have an ugly pine bookshelf.

Just think, that Timmy said Apple must innovate or it will become Nokia. I hope this is not the innovation he had in mind or i'm jumping ship. :p

I updated my iPad 3 today. Based on the feedback given here I was expecting it to be quite bad, but I was pleasantly surprised. The screen takes a little while to brighten when activated, but it's the same amount of time that my iPhone 4S takes. I assume it's a parameter that Apple will adjust in a future update. Animations seem smooth, and aside from the wallpaper change taking longer than one would expect (as others have stated), things seem to be pretty smooth. I played Infinity Blade III and the performance was better than my iPad Mini with iOS 6, which isn't unexpected but which should mean that gaming performance hasn't taken a hit from iOS 7, either.

You can. Three gestures that may be of interest to you:

Four-finger swipe up: activates the "multitasking" mode (equivalent to double-tapping the home button). This worked in iOS 6 and I believe iOS 5, as well, although the way that the apps were displayed was different.

Four-finger swipe to the left or right: cycle between open applications. The order of cycling is based on which apps had focus most recently. There is no home button press equivalent for this gesture.

Four-finger (I use five) close: this is the same gesture that you use to activate Launchpad on OS X. It functions the same as if you had pressed the home button once.

I use these gestures all of the time and very rarely touch the home button. If it weren't for the implementation of TouchID, Apple could have removed the home button on the iPad and I would not have been affected. I hope you find that helpful!

So far so good for me on iPad 3. No lags. As others have mentioned, some problems changing wallpaper, but I do not do that very often anyway.
