I want to share with you my last week experience because I've been comparing these in my house to choose what to return:
-refurbished ipad air 2 64 gb (439€).
-ipad pro 9,7" 32 gb (679€).

After the whole week, my decision could't be easier to take. Ipad air 2 is an amazing product, with a gorgeus screen and flawless performance. Thanks to excellent Apple refurbished program, you can get a unit almost new, with all guarantees like new one at only 439€!!!. So, 240€ less than the entry level 9,7" ipad pro with 32gb more. The only thing I'll miss with air2 is the pro speaker configuration (although I always use wireless headphones to listen music or watch movies).
I can assure that buying this offert is best bang for the buck option related with iPads. It's killer. So my advice for the people who are hesitating is, "unless you need to use the apple pencil, buy the ipad air 2"

My Air 2 is now a family iPad after I switch to the 12.9 Pro and it's still going strong after being used every day since day one it was released. The speaker improvement alone prevents me from switching back to the air 2 but I must say the air 2 remains to be a wonderful purchase for this year and next.

It really is. A couple of weeks ago it was $299 new. That's an amazing price, especially considering it was $499 not too long ago!
At Best Buy? That deal will be back. They used to run that special on the iPad mini 4 all the time. Seemed like every few weeks.

But yeah, $299 for a brand new iPad Air 2 is such an amazing deal. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to buy a new iPad. I just can't justify the price increase of the iPad Pro.

I agree. You could get 2 iPad Air 2's for the same price of 1 iPad Pro 9.7".

That's just insane!

And if you want to purschase an entry level 9,7" ipad pro with official cases...the price increases up to 817€. But if you really want to use the only one key feature that makes different the pro from other iPads(apple pencil support), you'll have to add 109€ more.
So 926€ . It's simply ridiculous!

It really is. Apple was beyond greedy this time around. When the iPad 3 came out, even with it's expensive Retina display, they didn't increase the price. So what justifies the $100 increase this time around? Nothing, especially considering that an iPad Air 3 would have had most of the things the smaller iPad Pro has anyway.

But that's fine, if they think the way to counter falling iPad sales is to increase prices, go ahead!

Actually what they did is reduce the price of the Air 2 so it's cheaper than the Pro

I would say not very good at all. Why . Because just a year ago people were drooling over a $499 US dollars for 16GB and 2GB of DDR3 RAM and horrible speakers a laughable camera and really nothing else.

A year later in my case a 32GB much faster iPad Pro 9.7 with LTE Advanced (50% faster than 12.9 Pro LTE) is available for $529 on most cell carriers now that's just a $30 increase from the $499 WiFi only model now who really wants a watered down WiFi only model I can't imagine.

But look at how far we've come. And the improvements and features the 9.7 Pro brings over what IMO is laughable at the $499 price just a year ago.

So while. The Air 2 is good now with price drops its pretty bad when everything that is missing.

It's like buying a Base model Car you get the hub caps and 16 inch wheels cloth seats basic radio. When for extra money you could have had the 18 inch wheels and leather seats and V6 engine.

Same would have happened with an Air 3/Air 2 at $499/$399.

The Pro is just a way to up-sell the "pro" features that many do not want or need to those who want the best iPad.

Unfortunately, the iPhone seems to be heading in that direction as well. In a way, it already has with the OIS and 1080p in the 6 Plus/6s Plus.

I have lost more Bamboo Stylus's than I can count so the thought of carrying around a $100 Apple Pencil didn't appeal to me. I replaced my original 32GB Air with a 64GB Air 2 & am quite pleased with it. I don't draw, won't use the pencil but will use the 32 extra GB's of storage space.

Buy the iPad that suits your needs, it is lovely to have choices isn't it?

If you can get the 9'7" pro for $529, you could get air 2" with 64gb (32 gb more) at least, for $100 less.
The prices of new ipads is crazy. The differences between 9,7" pro and ipad air 2 aren't more important than differences between air 2 and original air were.
I really like the new "pro" moniker more thar "Air" one, but please, be serious. The new pro is only an ipad air 3 with other name. So the price increase, from 489€ to 679€ is ridiculous, as I said before.

Exactly. And there has to be a caveat(s) for getting a Pro for $529. The regular price of those is $729. You can't just get one for $200 off without some catch.

I bought an Air 2 also this week and like a lot, fast and without any lag, I hope I like the IOS 10.

But I bought the 16g, only use it to surf the internet and view files from Google Drive.
Say that 16G is little, but I do not see videos on it, do not play.
I have TV and PC for this uahuaha

Agree 100%. I had the iPad Air 2 and it was outstanding. My iPads Pro units are no leap ahead of the Air 2.

I bought mine around Christmas and couldn't be happier. The only reason I'd upgrade in the next 3+ years is if I want a 12.9" iPad. For what you'd save it seems like a no-brainer.
