But will it work for someone who is no longer a student? I graduated university a couple years ago and no longer study, I'm in work now.

I just purchased and I'm 38 years old, but will be using it to study bits and pieces. They don't ask for proof of any courses if that's what you mean. Mine will be delivered next week.

Ahhh ok that's great thank you, I did get a student discount when I was at university through their portal, but once I graduated it was obviously revoked. I hope you enjoy your new MacBook Pro :)

Thank you! Gotta share the info as this portal isn't the easiest to find, but gets you quite a hefty discount!

Are you using the 13" or 15"? And what are you using yours for if you don't mind me asking?

15 / 2.6 / 460 / 1tb

Using it for visual art, design, art direction, photo, video, business, presentations.

Specifically, Adobe CC (Ai, Ps, In, Lr, Tk), FCPX. The screen is a big wow in presentations.

Thank you, I'm just trying to get a feel for what people are using their new MacBook Pro's for as I can't decide between getting the 13" or 15"

Around 50% when on disconnected, 75% to 100% when plugged in, depending on where I am at the time. I mostly use the computer in darker environments, so brightness is obviously adjusted accordingly so it doesn't burn my retinas.
I have the 2015 15' Mac
So the screen won't be as good as yours

No and you'd be committing fraud if you did (which applies to just about every country in the world). Apple doesn't ask everybody at time of ordering to provide proof they are a student or work in education. Apple picks a bunch of people and ask those and can do so even after you've ordered.

Ok, fair enough, i didn't know they asked afterwards, when i use to get a student discount at university it was done through the portal and i never heard anything, just ordered the Apple products i wanted.

Been using my maxed out TB 13" for almost a month. No problem whatsoever.
I mostly do web development in Ruby on Rails, Node.js, Go. So for that case, it's the perfect laptop for me right now.

4 years? A computer that expensive should be lasting you a lot longer than 4 years. I intend to have my 2012 15" rMBP for at least 7 years.

Well technically even if you are doing any old course you are covered, so all good.

Plus I have 2 kids, so covered from that angle too.

I've had two 15" models. Returned both.

The 2016 is a major step backwards in usability for me (no Magsafe, no SD, no USB-A, hideous keyboard and trackpad, etc) and can't be certified for some of the consulting work I do.

Hence, no, not at all satisfied with them. They are a serious turn in the wrong direction.

That's probably because the portal requires an account from the university (no account = no access to portal) thus you already proofed yourself being a student or employee at that university. There isn't much reason for Apple to do yet another check.

The issue is with the general education store. There are no portals, accounts, etc. to check so Apple has to do it themselves. Since it is quite costly to check everyone, they only do a few.

Not everyone is in that position so you do need to be aware of the rules.
