I believe it will be exceedingly difficult. You're probably looking at a wait of weeks, minimum, for most people.

I would say don't count on getting one launch day. Supplies will be thin and demand strong. Plus the fact that if there are a lot of glitches I don't see Apple producing a whole lot up front.

Being the stupidly optimistic soul that I am, I would hope that Apple has seen the folly of their ways, and planned production quotas with their partners in sufficient quantities to meet the initial demand.

Then again, I want my first business trip post-release to be with one in hand, and enjoying the warm, comforting glow of being one of the favored few, if only for a few hours/days/weeks. ("Yes, though I am over 50, bald, and fairly unattractive, I AM better than you. Now piss off.")

Plus, as soon as that first contract is up, I want to upgrade to rev. B (or C, D, whatever's current)!

The $300NZ cell phone I bought 1.5 years ago can do live video calling... the iPhone, which is not expected to hit NZ for a looooong time, cannot.

I don't see iPhone doing well here at all. For the price (like $1000NZ) you could buy a very top class pda/phone with everything.

Am I the only one who feels just a little disappointed?

    Yes.

I think for the majority of people who don't camp out for the iphone are going to have to purchase them ebay for twice their worth.

don't worry so much about being the first to own one. if you really want to be different, let the first gen pass, then get the second gen iPhone. there will be less demand, because they are already out, and it may be cheaper as well :D

by the way, i thought this juxtaposition was amusing :p

Knowing apple next to impossible. Apple has a good long history of paper launches of new hardware. yes they say you can buy it in June but it will be while before people are really going to be getting them.

No you're not. I can't see such a low tech phone at such a high tech price being accepted anywhere but the US.

The delay for the rest of the world must be so that they have decent data connection speeds for the device, at least. (HSDPA).

I may have wildly underestimated the fashion/sheep appeal of the iPhone though. I mean people went wild for the RAZR which was a so-so phone.

    Does it sync with iTunes?(No)
Does it have 8Gbs of Flash Memory?(No)
Does it have a full touch screen with multitouch?(No)
Built in Wi-Fi with a full web browser?(No, maybe it has a moble browser, nothing like the iPhone's)
    Visual Voice Mall? No

Alright then, its not as iPhone, so comparing price would be a bad idea.

Lets just hope the iPhone launch isn't going to be like the Wii was here in the UK. I STILL, can't find a Wii anywhere.

You should have someone in America buy you one. I see them available in stores all the time.

But about the iPhone, it does not make sense to me that a software issue would be responsible for limited supply. Chip/hardware shortage, yes, but not software issues. I'm not saying that there will be enough to completely satisfy demand at launch (for whatever reason, companies always underestimate the amount they will need at launch, i.e. Xbox, PS2, PS3, Wii, etc.), but I think if you do want one, you should be able to find one soon thereafter. It was like when the iPod nano came out - I got one the day they were released. I had to call about 10 locations, but I found one!
