How has AirPlay changed my experience?

    Hi guys,

Now that iTunes has AirPlay enabled, I was just wondering how that is different to playing videos through iTunes via my Apple TV the way I did before the update?

I guess I'm just a little confused, because I still need the vids in iTunes and therefore to me AirPlay doesn't seem to be giving me any extra functionality.

I think it's like the difference between pushing and pulling.

Airplay can PUSH stuff from the Mac to the ATV2, even "mid-play". (i.e. you start watching a movie on the 11" MBA on your couch, then you decide to switch to the big screen and you push "Airplay"; without Airplay, you would have needed to navigate to the movie on the ATV2).

Whereas, when you turn on the ATV2 and browse your itunes library (libraries), you PULL stuff. (with the hassle of navigating through the ATV menus)

(i don't own any ATV so I have no real experience with any of that)

As I see it, the benefit is more when other people bring media round to your house that you want to watch on the big screen. Be it on an iPhone, iPad or Mac, you don't have to give out your iTunes account details (homesharing) to watch their content.

Airplay from Mac to ATV has limited use if you already have Home Sharing turned on. I think gianly1985 and Aidoneus pointed out some good uses. I'm still waiting for Airplay to be enabled from iOS devices to ATV. Now that should be a killer feature.
