I wanted to do an upgrade to WIN10 from WIN7 to work aoround all the GPT/MBR issues with a clean WIN10 install...
Who knew it would be such a pain in the arse!!
So.......
After many tries and failures (unsigned AppleSSD.sys, no keyboard or mouse to finish install) I finally figured this out.
I am being presumptuous here and am thinking you have some knowledge of the terms and processes I speak of.
And by no means am I an expert at all of this. After all, this is my first experience with MAC. I do however have quite a bit of experience with the Windows platform. I will do my best to answer any questions related to this post. I am certain that others here on this forum will be able & willing to assist where I fall short.
Here is how I fixed my problems...
First things first...
BACK UP your valuable data!
Please.
Since I had a multi-version Windows 7 32 bit & 64 bit DVD, I had to fix bootcamp (I am running MAC mini late 2014) to support that installer package. Bootcamp only saw the 32bit version on my iso, so I had to trick it to support the 32bit installer.
The link that shows this can be found here---> https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/bootcamp-win-7-iso-with-both-64bit-and-32bit.1561855/
Next- due to failures from not finding USB 3.0 devices (no keyboard or mouse) half way through the install- I integrated USB 3.0 support into Windows Installer... DO NOT USE the Intel Installer Creator but do the following...
Copy Windows 7 Install package from DVD to directory of your choice.
If installing from iso, extract iso to that folder.
To inject these drivers into the .wim files, follow the detailed instructions found here---> http://codeabitwiser.com/2014/03/how-to-install-windows-7-with-only-usb-3-0-ports/
Make sure you run .cmd as admin... and to browse to the install directory, use the pushd: command in the command prompt (much easier to navigate to the directory you are using).
After completing these steps, start bootcamp and get the Windows7 drivers. ONLY check box #2.
BEFORE Installing Windows, delete AppleSDD folder from $WinPE$ folder on flash drive you just downloaded to
.
THEN, Prep MAC for Windows install by using checkbox #3 in BC.
Follow typical instruction found here on MacRumors... Make sure you create a partition of 100GB or greater if you plan on using the install for an extended period of time (if possible).
If you somehow miss deleting AppleSSD.sys, you need to boot back to MAC and use a 3rd party utility to delete (write access) the NTFS folder on the new bootcamp partition.
Then reboot your MAC to WIN7 and move on.
Some valuable info regarding the Windows side of the installation procedure...
I installed with a DVD... seemed to work better for me although I have created many iterations of Windows installers via USB 2.0.
I used NTLite to iso the package. You can use the your tool of choice.
& it's always a good idea to make sure your iso works properly.... boot from VM Player or another VM App.
Let me know if you need any more info. I probably left something off here or I am not very clear.
Good luck and wish you all the best!
