If you had to choose between the latest model iPhone with the newest features, or storage capacity which would you prioritise?

There's a big jump in price between the 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options - here in the UK there's a £550 difference between the base model 14 Pro and the 1TB option. That's around a 50% premium over the base option.

If you have a budget in mind would you rather go for say a 14 or 14 Plus with higher storage, or the higher spec 14 Pro with lower storage? Maybe a compromise between the two, a mid-range storage option but going for the Pro model instead?

Not very. Even 16GB is more than enough for me.
16gb is tough even if you stream everything. iOS is more of a resource hog than it was back in 2014/15 too. I know it’s possible but it’s very restrictive.

I was using an SE1 as a daily driver recently with that amount of storage and was able to do quite a lot with it despite the lack of space. I was on iOS 15.7, had Netflix, Disney+, Prime, YouTube, iPlayer and Among Us installed. I subscribe to Apple Music too so streamed everything & kept almost nothing on the device natively but was always sitting at around 15.5gb.

I have over 1 TB of photos and videos. So I always get the max storage. Otherwise it seems that looking at photos and videos lags while it downloads. Live Photos do this a lot. So I guess it depends on what’s most important to you. If I had to choose I’d probably go Pro with 512GB if that’s an option. I do the iPhone Upgrade Program so it’s spread out over time.

That's actually a good question. I would prioritize higher capacity. The device already does what I need. I have computers and TVs and game consoles for all the other stuff.

The kicker for me, is that I don't need the storage. But it is what I want and when it comes to certain (most) things I usually just get what I want. Most of the time it takes care of the need with lots of room to spare.

128GB is enough for me.

I've always purchased base storage for all my Apple products -- iPhone, iPad, and Macs. So, I'd go for the newest iPhone with all the newest features over an older iPhone with lots of storage.

What I'd like to have (in an alternative reality...) is less storage and a cheaper iPhone!

I guess I don't do much on my phone other than photos (never take enough to fill storage) and regular "phone" things like text, talk, safari, and music.

Right now I have a 128gb 13 mini and have about 55gb, and only because I've downloaded all my music (so skipping songs is faster in my car) -- otherwise I'd probable have over 100gb free haha

I've thankfully never been in a position where I wished I had more storage, with the exception of the iPod touch days before I got an iPhone and before Apple Music

I don’t worry about local storage much. iCloud with optimised storage turned on is the way forward for me. So I’d rather get the latest and most capable device than more physical storage.

I've got about 50GB on my 14 Pro, almost all of it inherited from my recently retired XS. So 128GB is fine for me, I use my 3TB Mac and externals setup for most of my storage and try keep my mobile devices pretty light. I think I've came close to maxing out my 64GB XS a couple of times but I just had to move a few long video clips or verify that they were already backed up on the Mac, then delete them from the iPhone.

I needed about 77 GB on my retired phone so I went with the 128 GB.
I do clean up my phones storage once ayear by moving everything onto a hard drive and then deleting it from my phone. Whatsapp adds soooo much clutter to my phone with iots picture sending and stuff

Agreed. When it comes to phones, I am Mr Budget: so I have a 2020 SE (I'm not a photographer - and if I want to do anything more computery / creative / content-absorbing, I use bigger, better equipped devices). I got the 128GB for only an extra £50 from the 64GB version, thinking at the time 'bargain!' - but I needn't have, as I'm never going to get close to filling the first 64GB...

In most cases WhatsApp is the culprit when my family complains about storage.

The latest iPhone I own is 128GB iPhone 7 Plus and the latest android phone is 128GB Galaxy S10+

Both have fingerprint scanner, capacitive home button for iPhone and under display ultrasonic scanner for Galaxy...

If I were to upgrade my iPhone, I would go for iPhone 8 Plus 128GB or 256GB for it still has Touch ID and bigger screen [although not as big as iPhones since 2018] but if Apple were to reintroduce iPhone 7 Plus or iPhone 8 Plus form factor and call it iPhone SE 2024 or whatever that will be the next iPhone for me...

Of course who would not want the improvements in the camera department? Even though I use an android phone without a physical home and navigation buttons I would still go for an iPhone with home button Touch ID...

I always buy more than I ever use, but prefer to have too much than not enough and it helps with ease of re-sale I've found as well having a storage size that isn't the lowest option.

My main use is for music, and I will not pay a subscription for it when I'm happier managing it offline myself. So a decent amount of storage is important to me, 128GB-256GB seems to be enough for my library. Fortunately it doesn't take much to play music, so I'm happy on an older device.

128 is fine. When it was 16 back in the day, there was an argument for upgrading to the next storage tier (though I never did) but since 64 or 128 not so much

I need 512gb minimum. I dont use iCloud. I prefer to have things on my phone. Music n podcast alone took around 250gb.
