Those of you questioning should I get an
  • Should I get an 8 plus or a 8?
  • Should I return my 8 plus for an 8?
  • Should I return my 8 for an 8 Plus?

Before you know it, as time rapidly speeds by, the 10 will be out and will be in millions of peoples hands. The 8 just happens to be the latest tech. Now I know the price is very expensive and the Face ID is not proven. But let's face it, if you have enough time to post on an internet forum specifically for iPhones and Apple products. You really can spend the money to get a new iPhone, and with payment programs via Apple/carriers, you're looking at a few more dollars monthly. So this isn't a real viable excuse to me. I hate it I don't like the price, but I don't believe anyone who touts handfuls of Apple products then acts like they can't or won't fork over a little more, yeah right.

So let's quit posting threads about "I'm done with Apple!", or "totally not gonna get the X". Let's just face it, yeah you will. This isn't some gang where your word is bond, this is an internet forum with 0 accountability. One day you can post here how you hate the new tech and the stupid notch (I agree its silly) and the day it comes out your rabid consumerism will impulsively get you to buy it.

Hell I'm not optimistic, I miss Jobs and I know this company isn't the same as when he was around. Lets not forget he told Tim Cook, "Don't be Steve Jobs".

I say this because I've never met anyone that has told me they love the design and feel of the phones. (6 through 8). The 8 is beautiful, but the design is the same, except of the glass backs.

So let's get real guys. Even that crazy lady with a 10 page thread shouting on top of her iPhone SE mountain about how she upgrades every year but won't this year! Yeah she will. Wanna know why she hasn't yet? Because she literally can't for another month, and when we can't access a product, to our consumer minds, it does not exist.

edit: To clarify this is NOT for everyone. Those that are rocking a iPhone 5s or who just got a 6s or 7 last month. Not for you. This is for the people who: upgrade every year, who must have "new tech", those already complaining about returning their brand new 8 or 8+.

Wow.

No, I won't. Yes, I can, but no, I won't.

I had the 8+ and returned it, in favor of my iPhone 7+. No, I won't.

I think a lot of these posts underestimate the impact of the delay and supply constraint of the phone. The iPhone X won’t be available for a lot of people until early 2018. At that point, why not wait for the Xs, or a price drop on the X in September? In the meantime, my AirPods, fast charging and wireless charging, etc all work on my 8.

Don’t believe you.

Just kidding. My wife ended up getting the 8 Plus. I have no envy. Wireless charging is nice, but I’m fine with my 7 Plus

Sorry OP, but I’m not getting the 10. However I will wait a year and see what Apple produces with a 10s and a larger screen and then perhaps I will buy. So I’m not one of those that say I hate that 10 but I will say I will not buy it and settled for the 8+ instead. I am very happy with it. So there.

This isn't a valid argument at all. Regardless of how much time someone spends on an Internet forum about iPhones and Apple, that doesn't justify the means of what the consumer can or cannot afford. No Matter how you break it down, it's $1000 iPhone before taxes and or with AppleCare and accessories. Even breaking down the monthly cost, it's still more than a "Few dollars." One should purchase what they can afford based off debt to income ratio, not the justifiable excuse of "Maybe I can afford it if I finance it." That's not rational logic.

Will not buy a 10.

I change iPhones every 2-3 years, depending on how long it takes me to kill them or for the battery life to be bad.

Hopefully Apple come to their senses by the time my 7 is ready to give up.

edit:
could afford to buy one, sure. but its so not what i want to spend my money on that often. beer, treats for girlfriend, motorcycle parts and equipment, track days, more money off the mortgage, etc.

Wow, OP. While interesting, your post is laced with pure speculation and assumptions. I had a 7+. I bought an 8+. I will NOT be returning it for the X. There’s things I like about the phone, but the value just isn’t there for a $1460 post-tax device. I can’t quite accept the notch either. I will enjoy my 8+ until they come out with an “XL”-type or upgraded version of my 8+. Enjoy your X

OP think’s he’s a know it all on his first, and only post. I like these first posters. :)

Post count doesn’t have any bearing on whether someone’s view of reality is informed or realistic or not.

That said, there’s a huge amount of assumption and deliberate trolling there.

Smacks of “no one could possibly hate anything about the X because i like it”

Perhaps it's because I'm happy with my 8+ but the iPhone X isn't even on my radar until I come on this forum.

The gap between the launch announcement and the actual launch seems extremely long and that could mean lots of 'normal' people could forget about it in favour of other products.

I may be in the market for a X after all. My wife cracked the edge of her screen on her iPhone 6S this morning. Still usable but our 10 year anniversary is in November and I can surprise her with the X.

Personally I like my iPhone 8+ and absolutely nothing about the X is interesting. If I need OLED I have a Samsung Galaxy S8+. It’s not a new feature to me .

Pretty sure there are some average Apple users who either bought the 7/7+ last year or sometime this year that will be passing on both the 8/8+ and the X.

I work with one of them. Her comment to me this year was "It's going to be a long time before I upgrade." Her iPhone 7+ is only about 3 or 4 months old right now.

First line is realistic smart stuff. Next line you talk about my assumption then jump in with your own - that I am trolling.

Of course there is assumption. This is life, life isn't always black and white. We don't have all of Apples business numbers. For example: we don't know how many phones have been returned or will be returned. We would all love a life of just raw data and statistics and straight facts - but that isn't always the case in certain parts of life.

Your last line of "smacks of x or y". That's not what I said at all. I didn't say some one could hate something (the X) because I like it. I specifically said I'm not a fan of the notch and I'm NOT optimistic about the phone.

I'm just trying to be realistic with the fan base here and with myself. Apple is the largest company in the world, has a genius branded cult following of people. And with the decade of smartphones that is dominating life as we know it - new tech is a big deal to many people. Act like that's not true or turn a blind eye - but many people see it as a status symbol just as much of as a tool in daily life, and will spend that money for it.

I am not pointing fingers with out myself being under the microscope too . I have returned an iPhone for another one before, more than once, more than twice. I have often obsessively gone back and forth from one decision (phone) or the other.

But I also know myself, through trial and error in that sense. Do I speak for everyone here? Absolutely not. Am I gonna be spot on with a decent amount of people? Yeah I think so. Nothing I'm saying is just so absurdly outlandish.

Stick around.

You will find that I in particular, and quite a few here as well, are not part of the Apple cult. We buy Apple products because we like them or need them for something, but we do not buy blindly simply because the product has an Apple logo on it and we feel disloyal to Apple if we do not.

Sure, there are some here that do feel that way. But many of us here are techheads and own multiple devices and not all of them Apple branded.

To me it’s the price, I just can’t justify spending that much amount of money on a device where there is no 128gb model base, that kinda rubbed me the wrong way, I have a 7+ 128gb and it’s perfect, I might have gone for the X if it didn’t have the notch and the base storage, this year Apple is nickel and diming us. Next year they will reintroduce the 128gb model and slap a 1.1k price tag on it.

I really can’t justify it, Samsung has had face Id for a while and their o-led screens are far superior and overall better “hardware” but their price is justifiable and lower than the X for the amount of stuff you get, heck the Note 8 is an amazing phone and the display. I think Apple is trying to impress their investors this year by pricing up their phones.

For now I will sit back and enjoy my 7+ for at least another year and see what Apple does next year with the X.

I am NOT getting the X. $1316 (incl tax) for the 256 gb model... no thanks.

But I also returned the 8+ I recently got about 40 minutes ago. $1024 for the 256 gg. The experience wasn't earth shattering enough to justify the price, coming from a 6+.

Went ahead, returned my 8+, and got an SE for ~$484 w/tax... MUCH happier with that decision, as it gave me what I wanted to the most out of upgrading my 6+ (more storage, ability to shoot 4k video, ability to run iOS 11 better).

But whatever... everyone should be happy with what they buy. And if they're not, return the damn thing.

It does if this is his first post and blatant topic on what we are going to do without any basies or fact. Just that he thinks he knows everything about everyone. That’s silly. His very first post and he could’ve talked about many other subjects, but he didn’t.

How about this: just worry about your threads and let others worry about theirs.
I know what you're saying but members can make whatever threads they want as long it doesn't violate the rules here. Let people buy whatever they want.

Speaking of...this thread is just like any threads.
