That doesn't sound right.

why not? Do you think you need more than 1-5mbps to stream Rdio, Pandora, check emails, and read here and there. Let me tell you, no, you don't need it. :D On the other hand if you live in an area without HSPA+ Verizon is the way to go.

Spoke with an AT&T rep today and they told me they were trying to roll out LTE for Nassau county by the beginning of 2013 and Suffolk county by the end of 2013 :(

Started considering switching to Verizon, which has LTE coverage for all of Nassau county and the entire south shore of Suffolk county..

On long island the actual performance of LTE(verizon) is about even with HSPA+. It has the potentential to be faster; however, all but a few key places they are equal in speed.

For comparison I just ran Speed Test on my devices in my house:

AT&T iPhone 4S "4G": 6.58Mbps down, 1.50Mbps up
Verizon iPad 3 LTE: 18.27Mbps down, 12.74Mbps up

Wow big difference

I'm about 7 blocks away from the 4G LTE coverage according to AT&T's map.

I live in Suffolk County, north shore, and I am switching to Verizon for the Iphone 5 strictly because AT&T won't cover Suffolk until late 2013. I take the LIRR into NYC every day and if I go with Verizon, I get LTE pretty much from Huntington into NYC. With AT&T, they haven't even covered Nassau yet. They were late to the game with LTE. HSPA+ is a joke in Long Island, it's basically 3G.

Hopefully they can fix my ****** service in bellmore while they are bring us 4G

I'm in Woodmere, first town over the Queens/Nassau border, and as soon as I cross from Queens into Nassau, I drop to "4G" from LTE on my AT&T iPad. I'm also surprised they aren't being more aggressive about a LI expansion, given the population density and relative affluence of the area. Especially Nassau.

Im very surprised myself and disappointed at the same time

Woot! Lots of Long Islanders here. I'm from there originally. Mastic/Shirley area in Suffolk. I live in Las Vegas now, but I'll be going back to LI this year for a buddy's wedding. I still have a bunch of fam out there. At least I can expect to be a bit disappointed with my connection speeds in advance. Last time I was out there, I was working with my iPhone 4 on 3G. Didn't really notice much of a problem until I went into congested Manhattan.

freeport here, (south side) no LTE on the island yet...i feel like there should be cause we have towns on the island that have more ppl in them then citys. If the town were to be incorporated as a city it would be the second largest city in New York behind New York City and ahead of Buffalo, and it would be the 16th largest city in the country, placing itself behind Columbus, Ohio with a population of 787,033, and ahead of Fort Worth, Texas, which has a population of 741,206. The town's population density is also greater than that of Columbus and Fort Worth.

I'm from Baldwin but I'm always in south Freeport haha. Small World.

Bummer that the Island doesn't have LTE yet. Neither does my campus (UMass) so I guess I won't get to experience the speed unless I'm in the city. :(

LTE appeared for the first time today on my AT&T iPhone 5 in Garden City, near Roosevelt Field Mall @ 13.55Mbps download. Still only HSPA+ in Port Washington north.

Nassau county on AT&T has full lte coverage with speeds ranging 15-30mbps down 15 up

Verizon more saturated Around 6-10 down
