Has anyone using TetherMe app received this notice?
I don't think I've read anybody getting the message using TetherMe.

I also love the ignorance of how people think and are comparing tethering to stealing other things such as clothes from a store. Like you honestly believe those are the same thing? Stealing is stealing? you guys come off as tethering is the same as stealing a car.

It is stealing.. No ignorance at all. I like the denial and flawed justification that people make to claim it is not stealing. You are not contracted to use the data and service in the way you are using it so you are stealing the service. No different than if you had an illegal cable hookup or a pirated satellite card.

The difference here is that everyone has legitimate reasons for thinking tethering is not stealing. Its like buying a shirt that comes with a tie. Then after a few months the company calls and says were actually going to charge you for that tie now.

This is not some kind of gray area, it is pretty clear. You agreed to a contract that specifically spells out the condition for your usage. You choose to take a service they charge extra money for and get it for free. That is stealing.

I have unlimited data. Data is data.

What does that have to do with you stealing? It is how you are accessing the data that is the problem. You agreed to how you would access the data, and AT&T offers a plan for people who want to tether. You are stealing. Data is data is irrelevant, you are still stealing.

Heres the real question. Would you guys be ok if ATT started splitting up data consumptions and charging for all that separately? "Hey were gonna start charging you an extra $10 a month to surf the web on your iPhone, $5 a month for email, $10 a month for streaming Pandora and $20 a month to stream Netflix." Would that be ok with you? Of course it wouldnt.

Again how is it relevant? If I signed a contract with AT&T with those terms I would not have a problem honoring it. Why would you sign a contract with no intention of honoring the terms and instead just plan on stealing things that you don't want to pay for?

Its the same damn thing with tethering, the only difference is that you dont do it so of course you guys gotta all be saints and come on here are rip on everyone that does.

I rip on you people who steal because you negatively impact my experience with AT&T and cause me to pay more money for my service. I am subsidizing your criminal behavior and I don't like it. So get over yourself.

AT&T had 15 million iphone user, 3% are using excessive data which is equal to 450,000, it is impossible, or financially justify to monitor and inspect all this packet, but on the other hand, if this scare tatic work and show a profit, things might change. It's all about money.

those 450,000 users are using more data than the other 14.5 million customers combined. Thinking it is not worth their while to pursue this is just off base. They will pursue it, and it is not nearly as difficult or convoluted as people here and elsewhere seem to think. It is certainly about money. Those 450,000 users are using resources that could support 10-15 millon regular usage customers. With limited capacity and resources this is huge. It is one of the quickest and most cost effective ways AT&T can improve the capacity of their network for most of their customers.

So again if you think they will not pursue this zealously, you are misguided. They can and they will and you are not going to avoid by using a registry hack.

For myself, I will keep tethering and keep my data use reasonable.

Why not pay for it and not steal?

Couple post above, somebody mention people with only 2G of data usage are getting the letter from AT&T, I bet they had some high data usage on their previous months that trigger the warning email, dunno how far back AT&T is checking the data usage.

Keep wishing that is the case. I know most people here don't know how networks or routers work... but they are not just looking at bandwidth used.

You guys are ridiculous. So from whats being said here, I've gathered that some people think its ok to use 15gigs but not tether, but if someone tethers and only uses 2gigs they are stealing and should be sued? Thats the worst logic I've ever heard. Just leave AT&T to deal with their customers. The rest of the world lets people tether, why cant Americans?
