How is iOS 10 on iPhone 5?

How is that a deal breaker? For devices without Touch ID you simply just press the Home button. How is that any more difficult than performing a swipe across the screen. (It's actually easier and quicker if you're using the Home button to wake the screen. You don't have to travel your thumb up to the screen and swipe. You just quickly press the button.)

These are the kind of silly things I've mentioned in another thread about people "refusing" do update over weird reasons.

I'm surprised no one has said they refuse to update over the new lock sound yet. Wouldn't shock me one bit with some of the users around these forums.

This feature never made it to the iPhone 5, much like how Proactive never made it to the iPhone 4s, iPad 2, or iPad 3 in iOS 9. Look at the screenshot I took in the reply I made just above this. There is no messages window showing the conversation, just simple quick reply UI like before in iOS 9. It's just been redesigned for the iOS 10 style UI. So, there's no rich notifications.

thanks for the info on this- my partner has my old 5 and not tried the beta. assumed it'd get rich notifications. you won't get any acknowledgement of your correction from that member by the way.
 
I installed the beta on my girlfriend's 5S and she said its as smooth as iOS9. I've played around it with as well and it's very similar performance wise. The only thing she really misses is slide to unlock.

Because slide-to-unlock was the solution to the original problem of a phone powering on in your pocket due to pressing a button. Going back to that recreates the stupid problem. Does iOS 10 really do away with slide-to-unlock?

Criminal, if so.

If you don't have a passcode then that's the only time it'll be a problem. If you have a passcode then there's no way it will unlock in your pocket.

I love the new lock sound along with the new keyboard sounds. I'm completely satisfied with iOS 10. Battery life is the same as iOS 9 (still not excellent) but a single charge lasts me all day so I can't complain too much there.

Well there you go. My phone is incapable of Touch ID, and I don't use a passcode. This was changed without people like me in mind lol.

I'm sure I'll adapt, but it seems annoying looking at it now without having used iOS 10 yet.

As bad as I feel for the SOO many people losing further iOS support, I really am happy for developers. The A6 + 1GB RAM is still pretty restricting in terms of power but not NEARLY, NEARLY as restricting as the A5 + 512MB RAM was.

Plus, the older A5 iOS devices have been total dogs since iOS 8, iOS 9 didn't make anything better at all.. It had to be done.

The only real restriction on the iPhone 5 is the A6 chip itself since both the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 still uses 1GB of RAM (albeit a higher transfer rate, although I'm not convinced that's the main bottleneck in terms of daily usage).

you sure must be brave not to use a passcode in a device that stores all your most personal data and likely has access to all your accounts. what if it gets stolen?


edit: i agree, removing the slide to unlock and not having touch ID will give rise to some awkward unlock procedures.

Some of us have medical reasons to not use a passcode.
 
It does. Or rather you get to ICE-contacts from the lockscreen without opening the phone completely.

If you input a wrong fingerprint three times in a row you get to enter the passcode, and there on the bottom left you get Emergency, which is where you can call ICE-numbers as you've designated them in the Health app. If you don't use Touch ID then disregard the first part of the first sentence.

Hope that helps. My head is a mess at the moment and it may affect my writing abilities.

EDIT: And obviously you don't use Touch ID, since this thread is about iPhone 5. Damnit..

yes, that's what it's made for. in case of emercengy a third person can access some data you decide to make available, ref. contact, blood type, any other relevants.

edit. haven't seen the post above, which explains better than i did.

Eh, my phone is either in close proximity or locked in a closet when I'm at work. My fiancé and I also got in the habit of not using passcodes so we could answer calls or texts for the other person while they are driving. I also use 1Password or complex passwords I created for all of my various accounts. Plus, where I live I'd have to physically leave my phone somewhere for a pretty long time for it to get stolen. We don't have the "Apple snatchers" in the Midwest
 
Does anyone see the "app suggestions" feature on iOS 10? Previously I was able to enable it in Settings under General > Handoff & Suggested Apps" but for some reason that has now changed to just "Handoff" with the option/toggle missing inside there as well?
