How is ios8 on iPad mini first generation?

Technically similar to the ipad2. Should be fine from my experience.

If you need openvpn, you may delay the upgrade, though.

I can't tell you. But last year they stopped allowing downgrades 6 days after iOS 7 was released.

If we go by that, you have until next Tuesday*.

*don't kill me if they stop sooner

Downgrades may be possible only the next 24-48 hours, so hurry!

Test the device and your major apps for a few hours and then make a decision. I downgraded today and it was easy.
