My 2018 iPad Pro running the latest iPadOS software is horrible in memory management. Safari tabs constantly re-loading. Apps like YouTube constantly refreshing. Anyone with a 2020 iPad noticing a difference? Does the 6GB RAM make a difference? Or is iPadOS the problem?

I have the 2018 1TB and it’s exactly the same, tabs refresh

Although I only notice this when I’ve just switched on my device after not using it for a bit

Mine is almost as bad as the first iPad Air with 1GB RAM. It makes the device a lot less enjoyable to use. I hope iOS 14 is better in this regard.

The 6GB of RAM in the 2020 iPad Pro can be utilized for apps (unlike the 2018 iPad Pro).

When you guys say “tabs keep refreshing”, how many tabs are we talking about?

2020 iPP here and no refreshing with 7 tabs open.

My 2018 12.9” iPad Pro on 13.4 is terrible with refreshes with 5-7 safari tabs open. My 2020 11” iPad Pro is much better. I didn’t remember pre 13.4 having safari issues on the 2018 so hopefully it’s a bug in the software.

Didn’t know this was the case. Obviously some RAM needs to be set aside for the OS, but does the 2018 IPP with 1tb and 6gig of ram perform differently to a 2020 model?

6GB certainly keeps videos like YouTube open a day after which the 4GB models didn’t for me...taps still open too so really if you use a lot of safari taps and YouTube and games then yes the ram is very noticeable.
