For those who’ve had the midnight color for a while I was wondering how the coating has held up with a lot of use. Just thinking to get a midnight 13” for my partner and would consider her “care-free” with tech which is why I’m thinking whether I should get this color.

mine held up fine. The edges wore a bit where they rubbed against my watch buckle and you can see the natural aluminium color (silver). So if you think its going to get scratched up a lot. You will see them more than with a lighter color.

Thanks for sharing. Do you have pics of the scratches?

We've had a 13" Air since launch and the colour is just fine, no scratches on the main body or around ports etc. It's still an absolute finger print magnet, but we all knew that from the outset.

Thanks for sharing. I’m wondering if someone who is very sweaty hands using the colour would make the coating wear off fast.

I have had mine for about a year and the only wear is near the usb c port where you can see very faint bit of silver. But you have to look closely to see it. Otherwise it looks like the day I bought it. Granted I am careful with my devices. It is used and goes into a nice padded case when not in use. But I have worn watches with bracelet and steel bracelet and it has brushed the surface of the laptop deck a few times but it didn't leave a mark. I am sure enough force would have though.

I would get the color you like because the joy of the midnight color far exceeds any risk of damage as long as you are aware and careful of the finish. Any anodized aluminum will scratch right off and all it takes is anything harder than aluminum which is pretty soft. So if you understand how durable the finish is(not that durable) then you should be fine and this would apply to any color other than silver.

My 15” MBA is in midnight and it gets marked incredibly easily with greasy finger marks, but is quickly cleaned with a microfiber cloth. I ended putting a case on ours, however the keyboard deck still needs regular cleaning, but then that is the case for all laptops. The microfiber cloth I keep handy keeps the keyboard, trackpad and deck clean. I have no scrapes or scratches due to connectors or watch straps, so the midnight color seems to be perfectly viable and no worse or better than the silver or space gray I have had in the past.

Have midnight and love it. Dropped it on a tile floor and was terrified. No problemo!!! Wear bracelet and rings, but no scratches. Everyone loves the color. I’d say go for it!

Wow, you dropped it on a tile floor! How many feet of a drop was that? the computer came out unscathed?
