I've had my macbook pro for just now a year and i have 525 power cycles. How is this even possible? That means twice a day I'd have to had completely drained my battery and recharged it?

Mkkway.

Sorry for the noob question as I never owned a MBP and now looking into one. Does the MBP keep track of the battery cycles? Is it a built in application or something?

It's written in the System Informations application, but you can also download the freeware CoconutBattery which does only that.
