I want to upgrade, if nothing else to check the battery health of my series 3, but I use force touch all the time. I'm very hesitant to lose it. Sad to see it go on the phones, feels essential on the watch. AFAIK, you can't downgrade the watch so I can't try it out and go back if the loss of that feature bothers me more than the few features the series 3 gains in os 7.

I forgot force touch exists. Can’t remember the last time I used it. I hate it on the phones too, so I’m glad it’s going away. I hope it doesn’t hurt your user experience too much. Always a bummer to lose features you like.

Does watchOS 7 just use long presses instead of force touching? I only use force touch to clear notifications.

I ran the beta on my series 3 and my series 5 and I really didn’t miss force touch at all. It was just teaching my brain and fingers to get used to something different as my muscle memory kept wanting to physically engage force touch for a while.

Long press now on the S5 with OS 7 sucks, force touch was 100% better and faster. If you want to clear notifications now you have to scroll to the top press a clear notifications button instead of a fast force touch anywhere and clear.

Just like the iPhone the lack of force touch is complete crap.

I agree completely complained the whole BETA. How dare they disable a Hardware Feature they sold me! Force touch was much better. Feature should have stayed for older watches...

Exactly! They did with Force Touch the same thing they did to 3D Touch. My X still has 3D Touch hardware! Why did it have to be disabled?

Any games that took advantage of 3D touch stopped working when the update first came out, so yes it's pretty much disabled.

Well turns out I had out update on so I'm on os 7 now regardless. I'm living with it, but I do miss force touch—especially when clearing notifications.

But I will also add the my Series 3 is snapper on WatchOS 7. And I do miss clearing the Notification area the old way however we must continue to grow and adapt as Apple sees fit.

With the haptic device actually missing--does the watch w/Watch OS 7 still vibrate or notify you of left or right turns in Maps? I had my Series 4 set to vibrate for phone calls, and just got one and it rang, not vibrated... That's a BIG issue if true!

The haptic engine isn’t missing. It’s the same as it has always been.

It's not disabled.

yes it is. I wish people people would stop saying it isn’t. I have two iPhones both with force touch. Both were gimped with software updates. They do not work or behave the same. I know, because I used force touch ALL the time.

Now my S4 watch has been gimped too. Even though it was fine before the update. This is the crap that really pisses me off. I didn’t pay to have my stuff disabled. It’s literally still there but Apple turned it off.

The support for what 3D Touch does has been modified in some places, but 3D Touch itself isn't something that has been disabled.

My Series 3 works fine the Haptics on WatchOS 7. You can even test is using the Watch app on your iPhone. Just scroll down to Sounds & Haptics and you switch between Default and Prominent and it result in your Watch sampling the setting. My watch also rings and Haptic setting on (vibrates) for phone calls.

You might want to check your iPhone Watch app for the Phone settings. Also do you have mirroring settings on?

OK, true; it has not actually been disabled. However, it is far less useful since the adoption of haptic touch throughout the iPhone lineup.

I like force touch and was a bit miffed that it was being taken out.
I’ve been running watchOS 7 for a while now; I have only just now remember that I don’t have it any more after reading your post - long press does the trick...
