I bought an XR (T-Mobile) after reading the XS horror stories for the last couple weeks. Wifi on the XR is rock solid, and LTE performance is identical to my Note 8 in multiple side by side tests in an area with 1-2 bars only.

I wished I had the larger screen of the XS Max, but I'm not gonna gamble over $1000 on a phone that might drop calls.

It is not the same Modem. They are from the same family but are different chips.

But the probable reason why the XR has better reception is that is has 2 large antennas instead of 4 smaller antennas.

What was wrong was the Max?
Slow data speeds, WiFi dropped and reconnected at random, poor LTE reception. Phone would not reconnect with LTE after being in a no signal area. Had to toggle airplane mode. I returned two XS max’s With theses issues. I am completely satisfied with the XR.

My Tmobile iPhone XR have excellent LTE and WiFi download speeds.

So the fact that there's not much activity on this thread seems like a good sign.
Is anybody able to provide signal detail from field test mode on XR vs XS?

After updating to iOS 12.1 I’ve noticed some issues with phone not getting any LTE data while it says it’s connected. Not sure if it’s at&t or the phone. I noticed it again today, but I’m still new to att. Didn’t noticed it before the update.
