I think I could cope in the unlikely scenario I lost my phone or damaged it by cutting myself away from the pressures of work and social media for a day or two lol. It would be a nice excuse and I wouldn’t have to buy a £700 quid phone just in case. Each to their own though.
I don't use social media; I still have 2 phones, though; each has their purpose.

Some people collect phones as a hobby. No different than having more than one TV in your house.

Not criticising you here but the TV thing is not really the same as they are not portable as such and tend to be used where they are located. For me an XR and XS are too similar as devices and offer pretty much the same thing. I could see why someone might have two phones on different platforms though.

It’s really difficult to not acknowledge the XR, and what I mean by that, is with the considerable amount of marketing Apple has set forth through commercials, billboards, carrier subsidiary marketing, etc, that’s all the consumer really sees in terms of which phone is offering the best incentive/trade-ins. So when the consumer decides to trade their device in, obviously they will find one of the cheapest alternatives, and when they see the same form factor/Face ID and other features that the Xs offers, clearly the XR is the winner in that category. [And I generally don’t think the consumer even knows/cares that much about 3D Touch in the telephoto lens.]

Pretty much this...

However, it's Xs Max all the way for me personally!!! I shudder at the thought of not having 3D Touch, 4x4 MiMo/256 QAM, Telephoto Lens, etc... With that said, I'm not oblivious to the OBSCENE amount of money I paid for my device either. So, I plan on keeping it for a minimum of 3 years. Is it going to take some will power, and self-discipline... ABSOLUTELY!!! But, all I have to do is keep remembering the OBSCENE amount of money I paid for it and I should be just fine.

3 of my other 4 lines have Xr and they love them and could care less about any of the above stuff I mentioned, if they even know at all!?

Us nerds on here, and other sites definitely are the exception for the most part.

I jumped off Social Media at the beginning of the year (2019), and it's been awesome!!! Do I miss it at times!? Yes!!!

However, the gains have been stupendous!!!

I use it to stay in touch with family and friends hundreds of miles away so I would miss out and gain nothing. I don’t use it to rate plates of food, post fake pictures or argue about Brexit lol. Nobodies social media is the same and it’s what you make it.

There's quite a difference between the XR and the XS Max. By using both I'll be extending the battery life of each of them although all batteries will die sometime. I'm not constantly hammering one phone. I know a couple who have 6 phones between them, both Android and Apple.

Whatever floats your boat mate. If you get the enjoyment out of it and can afford it, then great I say.

Would you have only one shirt or pair of shoes? I don't get your mentality.
For me clothing is very different to a mobile phone. I recharge my phone each night and it’s an object I carry with me like a set of car keys. Clothing needs to be changed, washed and is different depending on application and use.

I wouldn’t personally need another iPhone as it offers the same experience as the other one. It’s more of a tool and less of an accessory for me but I’m not a collector. As I said, not criticising your hobby.

In terms of features/comparisons, there is not that much of a difference. Realistically, both phones are very _much_ the same with the exception of 3D Touch and the telephoto lens belonging to the Max. The major disparity between both models is the LCD panel versus OLED, and some materialistic/aesthetic design changes with the stainless bands to the Max, but generally, these phones are very close for a side-by-side comparison.

I think it did pretty good, at least in China. On JD.COM, one of the biggest online shopping website, XR recieved 820k customer reviews while Galaxy S9 only recieved 37k.

Think Apple are really pushing out the sales strategy on the XR I’ve received so many emails about getting one for £529.99 with a trade in on my iPhone 7 then just lately there sending me the one in the photo!

The phone is nice in itself I’ve looked at it in Curry’s (Electrical Retailer) however with 5G on the horizon I don’t think buying a 4G phone is wise at the moment, 5G is likely coming next year and I’m hoping Apple come out with a 5G handset this year or next year!

After all there right were hanging on to our phones longer but the XR isn’t one I could hold onto long (3 yrs from today) no 5G why would you hold on to old slow tech that long when there’s quicker Equivalent arriving ;)

They have the same processor but I've found (perhaps just me and my habits) that I prefer keeping the R as purely music and podcast device that can also take calls and messaging. It's not my daily driver, though as I prefer the extra size screen of the Max.

I wouldn't have 3 phones although I have in the past. I know a real collector of phones who has perhaps 8 at any one time. He's constantly flipping some and getting others in. He's a real phone camera afficionado, though.

I think your expectations about what 5G will deliver (especially via a mobile handset) are a bit optimistic.

5G won't make that much of a difference. I wouldn't buy a new phone now as I'm strictly iPhone and have what I need. The XR is a great phone; the XS Max just a bit better with its screen size.

Yes well why would you want to keep a hold of a year old XR for a further 2-3 years from now when 5G is almost here no brainer really!

4G bearly worked when it come out but it was nice to have a phone with it as the coverage got better!

Same thing with 5G

As someone who went from and iPhone 4 to iPhone 5 to iPhone 5S over the course of six years, it’s a hard choice for me. I used the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 for a year each. The iPhone 5S was used for four years before I gave it away. None of these phones broke.

Right now I have an iPhone 7 with a brand new battery thanks to the $29 battery replacement program. I would keep it but I could use the upgraded cameras on the current iPhones. I’ve got a five month old daughter and the low light abilities of the new cameras is a big selling point for me.

I can’t really justify the price of the current line up but with a credit of $250 for my iPhone 7, I believe that I can live with it. Not going to be upgrading for a few years if I get one this weekend. Can’t decide if the Xs or Xs Max is better for me. The Xr isn’t going to work because it’s a brick with a relatively terrible screen. Loved the iPhone X that I had for about a week before it broke.

I’m not saying that the Xr is a bad phone but rather that it’s not for everyone. I am willing to pay for the OLED display, better lens and form factor. Don’t care about 3D Touch but appreciate True Tone. Normally I would wait for a refurbished model or go to eBay but that didn’t work out for the iPhone X that I had to send back today. Most people don’t have such needs and will likely go for the iPhone Xr.
