Haven't had a case, save for the Apple bumper for the 4... nothing on my 4s or my 5. I like the way it looks. I don't like the way cases look. That being said, my white 5 looks like the day I got it with regular use.

To the people who are getting dinged and scratched phones from putting it in the wrong pocket briefly that also has coins... are you wearing skinny jeans and running an obstacle course??

Not good. Not good at all. I've been careful with it but it seems like that doesn't matter as more tiny bits of aluminum can be seen every day. This is crazy!

I don't want to get a case because I believe the dust trapped inside will scratch the finish anyways.

I am having the same problem as most people: the paint is chipping from the chamfered edges; and because it is the black/slate it more noticeable. I just bought a griffin clear case that will be replaced with a speck pixelskin in the near future.

I got my 32gb black iPhone 5 on launch day and today I noticed about 4 light scratches on the screen. After being sick I tried all different cleaning methods to no avail. For the first four days I went naked no I have a light clear back griffin case on it while I wait for my zagg rear shield. I have been very careful of where I put it and make sure it's in it's own pocket. Why would it scratch so easily? My rear panel and sides are perfect.

My phone came out of the box perfect, but I called CS anyway to have my account noted in case I wanted to return it. This covers me for dings and dents for 30 without having to worry about them blaming the damage on me. So far it's still perfect. It's nice knowing you don't have to worry about something happening.

White or black? I have a white phone and haven't noticed any such issues.

How's My iP5 Doing?

Just fine...

I took it offline yesterday and happily resumed using my much appreciated, pristine, iPhone 4S.

I'll wait for the next iPhone & hope Apple gets that one right. :)

After all, you can't win em all...

And Apple certainly goofed with iP5

6 days and absolutely no scratches to report. I am pretty heavy handed with this thing too.

I'm more frustrated with the slight rattly of my sleep button, something which is only an issue because my previous iPhones never had it. Nothing to lose sleep over.

Just Dent It!

Yeah, I'm worried about my phone too (due to arrive Friday via China, Korea, Alaska, and Louiville, KY, according to UPS).

I recall the guys on Car Talk getting a call about how to keep a car perfect and dent free. Their advice? Take it to the mall and park it as close as possible to the biggest, ugliest, car in the place because when they swing their doors open you're going to get a dent. It WILL happen sooner or later, so you might as well do it now and stop worrying about it!

Continued heavy use of two black iP5s with nary a scratch. In fact, they're more durable than my iP4s on which the Apple logo scratched on day 1.

Same for many other owners. More and more likely this is an isolated problem on a small number of phones, not a design flaw.

So your phone came perfect but you wanted your account noted just in case you scratch it? Really?!?! You do realize that if you scratch and exchange saying that it was like that when you got it that's a felony right?

Does it chip from normal usage?

Does the black iPhone 5 edges chip away from normal usage? I'm reading from the scuff thread that some users see more specks of metal every day. Does this happen say when you put your iPhone down and pick it up during that split second where one edge of the phone is touching the table?

I really hope I don't have to change my habits of using my phone since my iPhone 4 is really durable even though I dropped it on hard surfaces including concrete 5 times! The dents don't detract away from the phone and actually give it character no matter how cliche that sounds.

mine too haha. only time it's not on a microfiber cloth is when i go out and then i be very careful not to let it rub against my pocket when i take it out.

just counting down the days until my case arrives!

Hi All,

Would just like to clear up any myth that the black rubs off or flakes away with use. Ive had mine on launch day, its naked, and its still in perfect condition. No scuffs, scratches, chips, or wear.

Apart from the factory damages ones this has been blown out of proportion.

Id be happy to bet that many complainers have damages the phone themselves. At the end of the day if you hit an edge against something hard you shouldnt be surprised if it marks. Most things would!

Got the black one on the launch day. Initially the phone was pretty much pristine. Week 37 batch.

Completely naked for a couple days, then screen protector applied. Body is still naked. Carried in jacket pockets, jeans pockets, bag pockets and maxpedition holders. A small drop from desk to carpeted office floor.

A few very small (pin-point) paint losses here and there. No dents despite the fall. Nothing major. Anodizing could be better, but it's no biggie and I'm planning to go naked for everyday use though I'll probably get a case for camping, biking etc.

Got a white one and going naked since i got it, basically a week, and i say not a scratch or anything. One thing i am worried about is the apple logo looks real scratch prone

Never said it was scratched when I got it but thanks for your concern
