Thanks but no thanks.

I'm well aware of the problems surrounding 17inchers, although common they're not absolute - Like you claimed in your original post.

That's the point I’m making. Not every 17inch owner has them, not by far. Those with problems are more likely to report their negative experience online in forums such as this, I'm sure there's thousands of perfect MBPs out there.

My MBP is fine, no problems what-so-ever. Please don't patronise me by demonstrating your ability to link to previous threads I’ve already read.

+1 agreed. Not everyone has those problems and I don't have HDD beeps nor creaking case. And yes, I have also read about the threads and yes I been to the apple store. :)

I do not have any of the problems either (but I am not discounting or disputing that others are. I just picked up my first mac 2 days ago. The information from everyone in these forums was extremely helpful as I checked for each of the problems in the store when I opened it.

I am very happy with my mbp 17. After much debate and research I went with the anti-glare and am very glad I did. After all the reading and research before purchasing I spent about an hour in front of both models side by side adjusted the color/brightness/etc... and played with them both. My wife at my side we both picked the anti-glare. The glossy is nice but not so nice to me that I wanted to deal with the glare issues. The anti-glare with the color adjusted looked every bit as good imo.

So if you are choosing between the two, pick the one you like and look at em both... don't believe the statements you read from biased people that don't add up. Both are very nice, it's just down to preference.

Did I mention I LOVE my new mac?!?!? (never thought I would say that with over 15 years in IT supporting Windows crap...

Thanks abunch!
What is the display panel used? has it changed or is it still a lottery between 9c99 vs 9c98?

I don't know where to find the display model, but I have the anti-glare and it is absolutely gorgeous. It is probably the best part of the computer. I don't have any lightbleed, dead pixels, etc.

The closest thing to a problem is that the bezel bulges a little where it says "Macbook Pro", but it is very very slight.

17" is the best laptop on the market i believe. it does everything i want out of it and more. im a graphic designer and it works well. game wise its decent. not a bad buy if you need to look at things in HD because 1920x1200 is the only true HD resolution. so it helps me greatly for what i do.

Well said... ;)!!! I love my Mac too. I also compared them side by side and in the end I got the glossy screen. As you said, it's all matter of preference. And I am still supporting IT/networking. Going on 20 years. ;)

System Preferences>Display>Color>Open Profile> look at line 13.

I also don't have any lightbleed or dead pixels. Knock on wood...:D

I have the 9c98. I don't have another 9c99 to compare to. In seems that the general consensus is 9c99 is better.

Done some screen test and black seem very black to me and no blueish tint on anything.

To be honest and not saying it to settle or compromise but overall I am happy with this uMBP and it's the best screen I have ever seen and I am old ;)

My display is 9CAD. That sound right?

Oh, I agree with the others. The 17" [matte] is by far the best laptop on the market. Period.

It that what it says under model? I have only seen 00009C98 or 00009C99.

the 9CAD is for Matte Display LCDs I believe.
9c99 and 9c98 are for the glossy LCD displays.

i have the early 09 with 9c99 and yeah it is a noticeable difference between the 9c98.

I was interested in picking up the 17" 3.06ghz model and selling the one i have now.

Another 17 inch uMBP owner here with no complaints. No beeps, no dents and battery life seems good though I couldn't say for sure how long it really lasts. Even if it doesn't last quite as long as advertised, it still has the longest battery life of any computer I've ever used.
