you're going to want some sort of keyboard with a sturdy hinge (not a magnet like the smart keyboard). The SK only works on a table or on your lap if you sit perfectly straight and don't move much.

The only reason I keep the ASK around is because it is the thinnest solution on the market and my use case doesn't call for much typing.
My iPad Pro 12.9 and ASK work very well on my lap - until my cat decides she want to be there (my cat always wins)
 
Would surely depend if the predetermined viewing angle works for you since you can't adjust it.
 
Honestly can't believe apples designed this product to only work at one angle.
I can. In order to offer multiple angles, Apple would've needed to duplicate smart connector channels, one for each angle. That adds complexity and cost. And there are physical limitations... in order to have a less steep angle, a smart connector channel would need to be closer to the user which means that the keyboard would have to be smaller.

Hopefully 3rd parties will provide alternatives, but I can't see how Apple could've added multiple angles without compromising the compactness of the keyboard cover.
