Umm yes... Actually people do want large screen portables.
If apple made an 18.4 or 20 inch MacBook Pro ( with a smaller bezel), I would probably seriously think about purchasing it..

A $4000 laptop would surely not be as successful as smaller, cheaper laptops. At some point "portable" becomes a mockery.

Surely it would not be as successful, but if it could sell in a niche group, even in low quantities it seems apple could manufacture it and sell it for $4k

It seems to me the chances of an Apple laptop larger than 17", given foreseeable technology, are just about exactly zero. I think there is a significant chance that Apple might introduce a 17" rMBP either this year or next year for two reasons:
1. Apple's cost has dropped to reasonable levels as larger Retina display yields have improved.
2. There is some pent-up demand from people who might have bought one last year but didn't due to non-availability.

I'm not saying the chances are high, but I think they are significant.

Lol I'm not expecting apple to offer any laptop larger than 17" ever... that I think would not fit in their product line... And if they cut the 17" because it was too large, never gonna happen.

As for the 17", well it might be the only retina I buy (I don't like the idea of not being able to upgrade later on), if it does indeed make an appearance..

I will never be able to have an rMBP, as it can only have one HDD, with my current 15" cMBP I have 870GB of storage with my 750GB HDD and 120GB SSD. I have no reason to screw up my game framefates; the rMBP has a 660m equivilent, but running games at 2880x1800 will give lower framerates than my 6770M at 1440x900.

You might find that next year's 15" rMBP with a Broadwell processor gives better framerates while gaming than your current cMBP -- even at quadruple the resolution. Running at 1440x900, a 15" Haswell rMBP might keep up with your current cMBP. Try it.

And other thing... if Apple were to bring back the 17-inch you would think someone would have leaked pictures of the case by now :D Too bad... :(

Well, I could use one too if I have unlimited budget. I've always wanted a 27inch macbook pro, so that I can watch two movies at the same time, anywhere I want.

Haha... I wanted one so I could watch 2 movies at once, while gaming, while reading my email, while riding a bike.... Each to his own I guess

I wonder how much a 27 inch retina panel would cost though?

If (and that's a very IF) Apple were ever to introduce a 17" rMBP, I would not necessarily expect it to be introduced at the same time as the 13" and 15" models.

If released this year, I would expect a 17" rMBP to use one of the Haswell CPUs with HD 4600 graphics plus a discrete GPU. Since these Haswells have been shipping for nearly three months and the volumes Apple would need would be lower than for the 13" and 15" models, I rather doubt we'll see a 17" MBP this year.

It's a Very big "if." I wonder how much it would sell for? $3,299?

Ironically, that was the cost of the first 17-inch laptop from Apple (the 17-inch PowerBook G4)

Remember that?!

I feel the way I do. No need to try to change my mind. :)
I'm not trying to change your mind. I'm trying to understand what could possibly make you think that.
They didn't get rid of the white MacBooks, *GASP*, nope, they turned it into many new variants notice the aluminum - unibody MacBook?
That's exactly what they did. They replaced the white MacBooks with aluminum cases, and then later added "Pro" to the name.

They did not drop the white MacBook without an announced replacement only to bring it back later.
No official word was ever released that this company themselves have made regarding the axing or cancelation of the 17" MBP. So one can only assume the best huge business possibility that they are getting ready to revamp the monster
The official word is the product is gone, the SKU is gone, the shelf space is gone, and there are not only zero announcements about replacing it, but no supplier leaks and not even any rumors to that effect. How you can take that and assume that it means they're actually working on it and are more successful at keeping it a secret than anything else they're doing this year is a complete mystery.
Still in development awaiting panels. Not in production yet.
It'll be waiting for those panels forever. I haven't seen a new 17" panel in over a year from any manufacturer at any resolution for any application.
