I have an iPhone 11. The smart thing would be to wait a few months and see what people say about the speed. I’m afraid it might slow the phone down unnecessarily. Apparently, the visual effects take up processing power.

But knowing myself, I’ll probably install it much sooner because I want to see what it’s like. :D
I can't help but feel its demand for processing power is overstated, since it's running well on my iPhone 14. I haven't tried it on my 11 yet, but I'll wait for the public beta for that.

Agree 💯

Apple doesn't make these sort of changes without major under the hood work. I am assuming the entire window server code has either been rewritten or at least refactored to the hilt. These UI/UX changes run deep into the infrastructure.

That amounts to the same thing

They rewrote a bunch code to make cosmetic changes

I can tell you what it is like right now - some animations are sluggish, some fancy effects (like “3D photos”) are not supported and the iPhone overheats on most mundane tasks. So if this is your main device, definitely wait for at least the RC, as by then iOS 26 should be optimised for older devices. 🖐️

I’m planning to upgrade to an iPhone 17 Pro Max this year. I plan to save iOS 26 for that, and then upgrade all my other devices to 26 once I get the phone.

I just don’t have the desire to run beta software this year. And with a lot of the features either requiring your other devices to be on 26, your friends/family to be on 26, or for developers to integrate the features in their apps which won’t happen until release day, it just becomes even less appealing. I rather wait for the stable, baked version on a new phone for a hopefully great, refreshing experience.

I am weighting in about trying it on the 1st July! So hyped for it but kinda afraid whether my main and only iPhone 11 Pro lifts it at all😂 I hadn’t updated to 18 so rn at iOS 17

I'll be fighting the temptation to install it right away. Experience has taught me that it's better to wait for the initial bugs to be fixed. I'm not singling out Apple FYI. I take this mindset to Microsoft too. Especially Microsoft. I waited a long time to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10, and the only reason I got Windows 11 is that I bought a new gaming desktop in 2024.

The screen call feature is nice, but I utilize the silence unknown callers features. I figure if it's a legit call, they will leave voicemail. In the past, it has caused problems because I used to have food delivered to me, and delivery drivers would not always leave a message. That's not an issue anymore because it's too expensive to have food delivered these days. I might turn off that feature and test the screen call feature once I get around to installing iOS 26. My concern is that scammers will just trick people into answering the call.

I'll upgrade my cheap SE on day 1 just to check out what's what. Once I can tolerate what I see I'll upgrade my 15 Pro. Last year I upgraded immediately because there was no other way to connect my new launch day Apple Watch. But this time around I really don't see any need for it. I am not missing any features either. In fact, I am surprised I didn't experience many iOS 18 bugs so I'd rather stay with that and not risk anything.

I utilize the silence unknown callers features.
I do too and after the initial phase of having to add all sorts of hotlines to my contacts so my bank and other places can actually return my calls it's been fantastic. I also sort out texts from unknown senders and only look at the "known" section in Messages which reduced spam via text to zero.

So far there isn't a single new iOS feature I want. I don't use Apple Intelligence or Carplay and I certainly don't care that the game center that once was an app and hasn't been seen for years now once again will be an app. I haven't used it once since my first iPhone and I have no need for it now. In a couple years they'll probably remove the app again.

This is a love or hate update
Most likely wait a few weeks to be sure reviews are good and will go to Apple Store to experience iOS 26 in hand

When it gets released officially, instant download!
Tried it on beta 1 on my 15 PM, was really nice, but didn’t want to live with battery drain.

15PM & 16P both on IOS 26 B2 with no major problems so far. Both iPhones are being used with hearing aids for users. Good battery life for all day use.

I have a secondary 13 pro. Been testing beta 2 and Safari has a a bug that renders my experience unusable, everytime I type in a textbox, the background blurs to 100% so I can't even see what I'm typing.

I’ll wait till I’m forced to, unless something changes drastically between the current betas and the release. I had the beta on my phone for a bit and hated it. I don’t like the UI changes or design changes at all. Going back 18 felt very clean and intuitive. 26 imo felt cluttered, extremely busy, overly complicated with simple tasks and not pleasing to the eyes. I hope I’m wrong but if not much changes other than bug fixes between now and the release I’ll wait as long as I can before updating
