Think even just based on the info we have from this release and the wide hype for the iPhone Duo, Apple is going to sell a boatload of Duos. While it might not even reach 10% of the sales of iPhones the first year (and it still may in terms of revenue), I think it still will be a huge new segment for a 1st generation product. Other manufacturers are going to be scrambling to compete, and it's hard to imagine that Apple won't do even a minor spec update. I think we also could be witnessing a whole new frontier in the race of the best smart phone. People think that the Pro Max is the best still, and it is in terms of camera and battery, but the profit potential of the Duos is unmistakable.
You best believe Apple has serious plans to add updates, and I would bet money that they are thinking year over year. Better camera (s), faceid, upgraded sound system, etc, and a larger screen are all on the table. Whether Apple calls this a "Pro" or "Max" or just sticks with "2", "3", etc remains to be seen. The Duo might signal a direction for future iPads too. Also, I predict that the Duo will work with the new touchscreen Macbooks in ways that are kind of tricky to imagine at this point, but add advanced functionality. The Duo isn't the next Vision Pro experiment, it is part of the next stage of wider smartphone evolution.
