Approaching 3 years but the original MBP I purchased was replaced within the first month. The current one gives small issues on a regular basis, has a dead superdrive and the LCD backlight is on its way out.

Same here...

I've had my mid-2007 Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro for just under 4 years and it has needed two logic board replacements, one new keyboard, a superdrive replacement and one new battery in that time. Having said that, all of those were covered 100% under AppleCare and the machine runs pretty much the same as the day I bought it. I would consider myself a pretty heavy user and I take it everywhere so I've been very very pleased with it's longevity.

That's not to say I'm not tempted by the new Sandy Bridge models though... :)

Same here, same exact machine with the same exact replacements except for the keyboard. For the past 12 months, I don't think I've had this machine turned off for more then an hour or two. I've even dropped it on a concrete floor and spilled a jug of water on top of it.

However, the Nvidea 8600 chip snafu had me worried for awhile...two logic boards, what a headache. But Apple did the right thing on that one (no apple care here). The defective superdrives of that era was also a pain (all three of my 2007/2008 era macs have bad superdrives), but external portable writers are cheap and work just fine.
