I bought a M1 Macbook Pro in April 512GB/8GB & I'm really happy with it ,but I only plan on keeping this for at least 2 to 3 years depending on how well the 8GB hold up in the future, also with it being 1st gen maybe is another good reason not to keep it longer than 3 years.

My next Macbook will more likely be based on the M3, which should be a significant upgrade over the M1.

So how long do you plan on keeping your M1 Mac's for?

So... I went with the Air for the first time and hell yeah I'm surprised by how above it's weight is punching my workflow (much better than my 16")

However I got the base model because I wanted to see if I workflow worked as fine as everyone as been saying on the 8GB and despite 7GB off SWAP after 10h every day it's been going flawlessly. I don't see any need for a fan either connected to an external display or simply working.

I am interested in upgrading to the new Air design with Mini-LED and possibly a M2 chip. Interested in getting more GPU cores and access to hook it up to 2 External Monitors (4K)

I will definitely be getting the 16GB variant next time, not because it's not enough now but because that will indeed become my main computer.

I got the 8GB/512GB Pro M1. I’ll probably get a new redesigned air or pro when they’re out.

Nothing wrong with the machine, but I love the idea of the Air having colors, white keyboard, etc.

Realistically I think this computer could last me 3-5 years which is normally my usual time frame for upgrades.

Bezeless screen is what I'm most looking forward, it's the only downside coming from the 16". And honestly I miss 2 screens.

I went for the M1 MacBook Air. I think I'll move on to the very next version if only for improved display support (you can only hook up one external monitor to the current gen). I'm also mindful that 1st gen machines have limited longevity software-feature-wise.

I guess I'm in a hurry to upgrade, but I'm not unhappy with my purchase.

I'll be first in line when the 2nd gen m(2, x?) machines come out. I have the 16GB/1TB M1 MacBook Air and love it, but for me it was more a "proof of concept" thing than anything else. I'm extra careful with it and super careful cleaning the screen, etc... gotta keep that resell value high! But I have a serious case of FOMO, so YMMV.

Thanks!

Got my M1 Air since November 2020.
How long… probably till the Q4 when the M1x or M2 comes. I just got it to test Apple silicon. So my brother might get this when I am done with it.

If I get another new Mac, it'll probably be after the next round comes out. I'll be looking for small and light, so the 14" MBP. Hopefully with a better screen, faster processor, and more than 16G of RAM.

I'll be replacing my M1 MBA 16G/1TB. It really doesn't fit what I want it to do and I'll trade it in on the new one.

I always intended to sell the M1 MacBook Air as soon as a higher end MacBook came out with at least 32 GB of RAM but now I’m not sure. I really like the tapered design and love the battery life. I’m afraid that a M2 (M1X etc.) will not get as good of battery life or that I won’t like the form factor as much. As the MBA is currently meeting and exceeding my needs, I might stick with it for longer than anticipated.

I got the 16/512, planning to keep it at least 5 years.

I have a 2013 15 MBP, and the main reason I’m replacing it is because the battery is shot and it’s not worth to spend $200 in my view. Performance wise, I’m content with it, so I expect to be blown away with the M1.

I'll probably keep using it for as long as it keeps working. Considering my last mac laptop was a 2009 white Macbook I tend not to upgrade laptops very often. But my needs are far simpler than a lot of the people who post in these forums.

My M1 MBA and Mac mini function just fine for me. I kept my last iMac for 9 years. So I imagine I'll replace my MBA or Mac mini when they start exhibiting problems.

I am happy with my M1 Pro (16/512), I can't see myself replacing it until it no longer meets my needs (which are decently light, as this is just my personal computer, not my working computer).

I purchased the base 250 GB 8 GB M1 Mac mini.
The performance exceeds my expectations significantly. Sure, the memory usage hits yellow a lot; but I don't give a damn about SSD wear. My user experience isn't affected at all.

I was planning on upgrading to a the new MB Pro 16 when released, but I may skip the first generation and wait until next year seeing how good this M1 mini is.

Wow that’s fast for a pro. It should let you 5-7 years. I don’t think your wallet will be happy.
