Still have my PB170 that I purchased in 1993, so that would make it about 14 years old.
As of about two years ago, I don't use it much any more but it still works fine.

ive had mine for a year and a half and its running pretty well. recently its been going to sleep randomly on its own, but preformance hasnt really disapointed me. i cant run the lastest games very well, but my applications are still responding reasonably. i figured id have the pb all of college so its got like at least 2 more years until i can upgrade
My 1.33 GHz 12" PowerBook lasted about two years before it was felled by a bad logic board. Instead of going for a MacBook - which had only been out for a few months at that time - I got a 1.5 GHz 12" PowerBook off eBay instead. That was about 9 months ago.
I probably would have gone for a MacBook if it had a better keyboard. If Apple doesn't have a light(er)weight MacBook Pro soon I guess I'll be getting a 15" later this year. Things are starting to grind to a halt on my current machine.

I have a TiBook that's just over 4yrs, no problems there! We have about 15 Powerbook G4' at work all about 3yrs old now, no problems either... sorry to hear you're not having the same experience 🙁
